‘Deli Boys’ Season 2 brings the crime chaos back to Hulu

‘Deli Boys’ Season 2 brings the crime chaos back to Hulu

Fred Armisen, Kumail Nanjiani, Andrew Rannells, Lilly Singh, and Robin Thede join the Hulu comedy’s second season.

With a background in film and branded content, he covers sports and entertainment with sharp insight and creativity. A longtime Oilers fan, he’s still holding out hope for a Stanley Cup run.
Here's what you need to know about 'Deli Boys' before it drops on Thursday, May 28 only on Hulu.

Tara and I are always rooting for more South Asian stories on TV, and “Deli Boys” is exactly the kind of show that makes that easy. It’s funny, weird, chaotic, and built around a great premise: two spoiled Pakistani American brothers inherit their dad’s deli business, only to discover – surprise! — there’s a criminal empire hiding underneath it. Season 1 was a blast because it didn’t try to sand off the edges. It gave us family drama, crime chaos, idiot-brother energy, and Poorna Jagannathan absolutely running the room. Now Season 2 is coming, the dirty money problem is getting worse, Fred Armisen, Kumail Nanjiani, and Andrew Rannells are joining the mess, and Philly’s sketchiest criminals are circling. Here’s everything you need to know about Season 2 of “Deli Boys.”

Everything you need to know about ‘Deli Boys’ Season 2

When does ‘Deli Boys’ Season 2 come out?

“Deli Boys” returns for Season 2 on Thursday, May 28, on Hulu as a full-season binge drop. That means all 10 episodes arrive on the same day, just like Season 1 did. Clear your calendar!

Can you watch ‘Deli Boys’ Season 2 for free once it starts streaming?

Yep, you can. Hulu currently offers a 30-day free trial, so if that’s still active when “Deli Boys” Season 2 premieres, you could watch the new season without paying right away. That’s honestly a pretty solid deal if you’re just trying to catch up with the Dars and see how badly they fumble their new criminal responsibilities.

After the trial, Hulu starts at $12 per month with ads. If you want to skip ads, Hulu’s no-ads plan costs $19 per month. Both plans get you access to “Deli Boys,” so it really just depends on how much ad interruption you can tolerate while watching people make terrible decisions with dirty money.

Hulu

Hulu is a video streaming service that gives access to thousands of full seasons of exclusive series, hit movies, kids shows, and Hulu Originals like “Only Murders in the Building,” and “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

…

It offers a good selection of current TV shows, and its ad-supported tier is cheaper than both Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. You will be able to watch most shows from networks like ABC and Fox, and cable channels like FXX, FXM, HGTV, and more.

The service has a base plan for $11.99 a month, or you can upgrade to their ad-free plan for $18.99 a month. For $89.99 a month, you can get Hulu Live TV from major cable channels, live locals, and regional sports networks.

What is ‘Deli Boys’ Season 2 about?

There are spoilers ahead for Season 1 of ‘Deli Boys’

Season 2 picks up with the Dars learning the hard way that inheriting a criminal empire was apparently the easy part — which feels about right. It’s one thing to find out your family deli has ties to organized crime. It’s another thing entirely to keep that machine running when everyone around you is dangerous, greedy, suspicious, or all three.

This season, the family is drowning in dirty cash, and Philly’s sketchiest criminals are starting to circle. That’s where Max Sugar comes in. He’s a casino king, a money launderer, and, somehow, Lucky’s new crush, which sounds like the exact kind of romantic disaster this show would cook up. The phrase “chaotic situationship” comes to mind.

Meanwhile, Raj is plotting revenge on Ahmad, Mir is trying to expand DarCo without blowing the whole thing up, and Philly district attorney Andrew Chadwater is hoping one huge bust can help launch him into the mayor’s office. So yeah, the stakes are higher, the money is dirtier, and the Dars are very much not built for a calm, responsible life of crime.

Who stars in ‘Deli Boys’ Season 2?

Asif Ali and Saagar Shaikh are back as the Dar brothers, with Poorna Jagannathan returning as Lucky. That core cast was a huge part of why Season 1 worked, especially because the show needs people who can play crime stakes and total absurdity at the same time.

Season 2 is also adding some very fun names. Fred Armisen joins as a series regular playing Max Sugar. Andrew Rannells joins in a recurring role as Andrew Chadwater, a district attorney with political ambitions and his eye on becoming mayor. Kumail Nanjiani also recurs as Danyal, a defense attorney hired by Max Sugar. New guest stars include Lilly Singh as Aisha, Maalik Ali’s wife, who is obsessed with Raj, and Robin Thede as Dr. Iverson, a couples therapist with questionable ethics. Tan France is also returning as Zubair, the stylish and intimidating British Pakistani crime figure from South London.

How can you watch ‘Deli Boys’ before Season 2?

Season 1 of “Deli Boys” is streaming now on Hulu, so you’ve got time to catch up before Season 2 premieres on Thursday, May 28. And you should, because this is definitely not one of those shows where I’d recommend jumping in cold. The whole fun is watching how the Dars get pulled deeper and deeper into a life they are absolutely not prepared to manage.
