The calendar still says November, but that means it’s time to start thinking about the College Football Playoffs in December! The 2024-25 season is the first time the CFP will expand to 12 teams, and viewers can watch the first of six rankings announcements on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. With 12 spots available in the College Football Playoff this year, the selection rules are a little different than in years past. The five highest-ranked conference champions will get automatic bids, and the seven highest-ranked teams after those champions will also make it into the dance. New rankings will be released every Tuesday until Sunday, Dec. 8.

The four highest-ranked conference champions will get the top four seeds in the Playoffs, earning themselves a first-round bye. The other eight teams will be seeded 5-12 based on their rankings, competing for quarterfinal slots. After the seeding is determined the Playoffs will follow a standard seeded tournament bracket.
