How to watch ‘Groundhog Day’
It’s okay to watch this classic comedy year-round, but today makes it extra okay.
It’s Groundhog Day today, which means there’s no better excuse to watch “Groundhog Day” again — on repeat. The Bill Murray classic has become a February 2 tradition, following weatherman Phil Connors as he relives the same day over and over in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.
While we are seemingly stuck in an endless winter here in the Northeast, spring will come sooner or later (hopefully). Watching this classic film today does ease he pain of the cold a bit, however, and it’s almost required viewing at this point. Whether you’re watching for the jokes, the surprisingly deep life lessons, or just to see how many times you’ve already seen it, today is the day.
If you have cable, “Groundhog Day” typically pops up on AMC as part of its annual Groundhog Day marathon, making it one of the easiest ways to tune in without spending anything extra. If you have AMC, check your local listings, because the movie usually airs multiple times throughout the day — perfect if you miss it once and want to start over (very on brand).
Prefer streaming? You can also catch it right now on Netflix, so don’t sweat it if you’re not an AMC subscriber. You can also rent or buy “Groundhog Day” on platforms like Prime Video, Apple TV, and other digital storefronts, so you can watch on your own schedule — and replay it as many times as Phil relives February 2. However you watch, it’s one of those rare movies that feels just as right on the 10th viewing as it does on the first.
Groundhog Day
A cynical TV weatherman, along with his idealistic producer and his sardonic cameraman, is sent to report on Groundhog Day in the small town of Punxsutawney, where he finds himself repeating the same day over and over.
