What you need to know about ‘Hacks’
Created and showrun by Emmy winners Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello, and Jen Statsky, “Hacks” stars Emmy winner Jean Smart and nominee Hannah Einbinder in a behind-the-scenes look at the world of stand-up and late-night comedy through the dark mentorship between Deborah Vance (Jean Smart), a legendary Las Vegas comic, and Ava Daniels (Einbinder), a young, outcast comedy writer.
At the end of Season 3, just as Deborah finally secured her dream late-night hosting gig, Ava is coming for what she is owed. After Deborah pushes Ava aside for another head writer, Ava blackmails Deborah into putting her in the role, threatening to reveal that Vance had slept with the network head during her interview and tryout process.
Now, in Season 4, the gloves are off and tensions are on the rise as Deborah and Ava work to get the show off the ground (and make history in the process).
