From home to highway, Hulu lets your favorite shows tag along
Streaming Hulu or Hulu + Live TV isn’t limited to the comfort of your couch. With the right setup, your favorite shows, movies, and live TV can go wherever you go. Between work trips, family visits, and weekend getaways, Hulu keeps you connected to your home channels and streaming library, even when you’re miles away.
Traveling doesn’t have to mean missing your favorite live sports, breaking news, or the latest binge-worthy series. Hulu’s apps and features allow you to watch on mobile devices, in living room setups, or even offline. Here’s how to keep your Hulu experience seamless while on the move.
Streaming Hulu away from home

Hulu works outside your home network, but there are a few rules to keep in mind. Mobile devices can access the streaming library nearly anywhere in the US, but Live TV channels may vary depending on location. Local affiliates may change during travel, though national channels and regional sports networks remain accessible.
If Live TV or Premium Add-ons aren’t showing up while traveling, a quick check-in on your mobile device at your home network can restore access. Living room devices outside your designated home network will prompt you to update your home location. Hulu allows up to four home network changes per year, which comes in handy if you move or switch internet providers.
Setting and managing your home network

Your home network sets which local channels appear on Hulu Live TV.
To establish your home network, connect your living room device to the internet you plan to use as your home, and:
- Log in on a supported device, or
- Visit your Hulu account page online and click Set or Change Home
Mobile check-ins are crucial while traveling. Hulu requires you to confirm your home device access at least once every 30 days to avoid service interruptions on Live TV and DVR features. Forgetting this step limits you to the standard Hulu streaming library until you check in.
Using Hulu in multiple homes
Hulu Live TV plans are meant for single-home use. If you have multiple residences, consider a second Live TV account for uninterrupted access. Mobile streaming remains flexible across all locations, letting you watch shows and sports without worrying about location limits.
Watching Hulu on the go

Mobile devices are your best travel companions. Hulu Premium subscribers can download movies and shows for offline viewing, eliminating the need for Wi-Fi or cellular data.
Here’s how to make the most of offline downloads:
- Connect to Wi-Fi or enable cellular downloading
- Tap Downloads > See What’s Downloadable
- Choose a movie or show and tap Download
- Access downloaded content anytime through Downloads in the app
You can store up to 25 downloads across five supported devices per account. Each download stays available for 30 days unless it expires from the Hulu library, and playback begins a 48-hour countdown once you start watching.
Downloading over cellular
Hulu lets you download content using cellular data, but the setting must be enabled first:
- iOS: Go to Downloads > Settings > Cellular Downloading and toggle ON
- Android: Go to Account > Settings > Downloads > Cellular Downloading and toggle ON
This keeps your favorite episodes and movies ready to watch, even without WiFi.
Why Hulu stays stateside
Hulu is designed for US households, meaning streaming is tied to a US-issued payment method and a domestic internet connection. Standard Hulu and Hulu Premium subscriptions work across the US, including Puerto Rico and some US military bases. Live TV, however, is limited to a single US residence, so it won’t stream on most US territories, overseas bases, or internationally.
Military families with base internet can stay connected to their favorite shows and movies, but streaming is restricted for service members living off-base or abroad. If Hulu flags your connection incorrectly, their support team can help get things back on track.
Hulu also blocks anonymous proxy and VPN services. Using one can prevent access, so make sure these are disabled for uninterrupted streaming across supported devices.
Stream anywhere, anytime
Hulu makes it easy to take your favorite shows and movies on the road. By checking in at Home and using downloads on supported mobile devices, streaming stays smooth no matter where you are in the US. Adjust settings, manage your Home network, and explore offline viewing to keep entertainment close at hand. Traveling no longer means missing out on the shows that matter most.
