The Mater Dei Monarchs have only played one game so far this season, a 42-25 win against Centennial. Quarterback Dash Beierly tossed two touchdowns in the game, and running back Jordon Davison added 122 yards on the ground as well as a score of his own. The lockdown Mater Dei defense accounted for three turnovers during the game.

The Bishop Gorman Gaels have played two games already this year, smashing Kahuku 33-7 to start the season. The team faced a sterner test in its second game, overcoming a 21-10 deficit in the third quarter to beat No. 8 St. Thomas Aquinas 29-21 in a thrilling comeback.
