About ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’
Both a prequel and a sequel to 2019’s “The Lion King,” itself a remake of the 1994 animated film, 2024’s “Mufasa: The Lion King” enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to Simba and Nala’s young lion cub Kiara. Told through flashbacks, the story follows Mufasa from his days as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka, the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance encounter becomes the catalyst of an unlikely bond between a group of misfits searching for their destiny and their journey to evade a threatening and deadly foe.
The live-action musical film was directed by Barry Jenkins from a screenplay written by Jeff Nathanson. “Moana” and “Encanto” composer/lyricist Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote the film’s original songs, along with a score composed by Dave Metzger.
