About The 2024 MLB Home Run Derby
This year’s MLB Home Run Derby will look a little different thanks to a few rule changes coming into effect for the 2024 event. First, gone are the first-round one-on-one showdowns. Instead, all batters will compete against everyone else, with the top four hitters advancing to the semifinals, with No. 1 vs. No. 4 and No. 2 vs. No. 3 based on first-round performance. Second, there’s no pitch limit in place. The first two rounds will end at the 3-minute mark, or at 40 pitches – whichever comes first. In the finals, there will be a 27-pitch limit (along with the two-minute countdown – again, whichever comes first). Finally, bonus pitches will no longer be on a timer, and they’ve tweaked how bonus time is awarded. Catch the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby on Monday, July 15 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
