What is ‘The Gilded Age’ Season 4 about?
Warning: Spoilers below for “The Gilded Age” Season 3.
Bertha spent most of Season 3 pushing her family toward the future she wanted for them… only she may have pushed too hard. Gladys married the Duke of Buckingham just like she wanted (and actually fell in love with him), but George was furious about how she made that happen. By the finale, after surviving being shot, George had a good, hard look at what he wanted out of his life (as one does). What he found wasn’t pretty, even considering divorce. At the same time, Peggy got engaged to Dr. William Kirkland; Marian and Larry’s engagement nearly imploded after he lied about visiting a brothel; Oscar’s family learned that he was gay, and Agnes watched the world around her keep changing, whether she liked it or not.
That gives Season 4 plenty to work with. HBO says Bertha’s success in Society has come at a price, and now the Russell family has to deal with what she set in motion. Agnes sees an opening to claw back some of the social standing she’s lost, Marian is heading in a new direction, and Peggy is trying to win over her future in-laws. Basically, everyone got something they wanted last season, and now we get to see how they react when it doesn’t taste quite like you expected it to.
Who stars in ‘The Gilded Age’ Season 4?
Carrie Coon, Morgan Spector, Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Louisa Jacobson, Denée Benton, Taissa Farmiga, Harry Richardson, and Audra McDonald are all back for Season 4. Jordan Donica is also returning as Dr. William Kirkland, which matters after Peggy’s engagement at the end of Season 3.
There are some big new names too. Jim Gaffigan will play President Grover Cleveland, while Dennis Haysbert and Elizabeth Marvel are also joining the Season 4 cast.
The Gilded Age
It’s 1882 and the Gilded Age is in full swing when Marian Brook moves in with her rigidly conventional aunts in New York City. With the help of Peggy Scott, an African-American woman masquerading as her maid, Marian gets caught up in the dazzling lives of her rich neighbors as she struggles to decide between adhering to the rules or forging her own path.
