‘Dead City’ Season 3 brings Maggie and Negan back together
‘Dead City’ Season 3 brings Maggie and Negan back together
The new season premieres Sunday, July 26 on AMC+, with Maggie and Negan finally working together for real.
Maggie and Negan have never exactly been easy hang characters, and that’s putting it mildly. But that’s also why “The Walking Dead: Dead City” keeps working. The spin-off has taken one of the messiest relationships in “The Walking Dead” universe and dropped it into a broken, walker-filled Manhattan, where survival already feels impossible before you add 10 years of trauma on top.
Now Season 3 is changing the game in a pretty major way, because Maggie and Negan are finally trying to build something together instead of just barely tolerating each other. Here’s everything you need to know before you can watch “The Walking Dead: Dead City” with a seven-day free trial to AMC+.

What is ‘The Walking Dead: Dead City’ Season 3 about?
Spoiler Alert. There are spoilers below for Season 1 and 2 of ‘The Walking Dead: Dead City.’
Season 3 of “The Walking Dead: Dead City” picks up after the events of Season 2, with Maggie and Negan finally putting aside their differences in a real way. This time, they’re actually trying to work together to build the first thriving community in Manhattan since the apocalypse. But as chaos starts rising in the city, they’re forced to ask the big question: have they actually learned from their old wounds, or is their brutal past going to wreck everything they’re trying to build?
The new season also brings in a fresh group of survivors led by Renata, played by Aimee Garcia, whose extended-family-style community has its own history with the Croat. Hershel connects with Luis, a doctor who becomes an important mentor figure as he starts looking toward medicine, while Negan crosses paths with Dillard, a loner who seems like a darker version of what Negan could become if he gives up on people completely. And just to keep things extra weird, Season 3 will also include an alternate-reality episode set in a very different version of New York City.
Who’s in the cast of ‘The Walking Dead: Dead City’ Season 3?
Lauren Cohan returns as Maggie, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan is back as Negan. They’re still the center of the series, but Season 3 is clearly widening the world around them. The cast also includes Logan Kim as Hershel, along with Jimmi Simpson as Dillard, Raúl Castillo as Luis, Aimee Garcia as Renata, and Michael Emery. Based on what AMC has revealed, the new characters are going to be a big part of how this season tests Maggie and Negan’s attempt to build something lasting in Manhattan.

Gimple, the chief content officer of “The Walking Dead” universe, along with Lauren Cohan, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Brian Bockrath, and Colin Walsh.
