About U17 Women’s World Cup United States vs. North Korea Match
The United States defeated Nigeria 2-0 in the quarterfinals to earn a spot in just their second-ever U-17 World Cup semifinals. Kennedy Fuller scored what would be the game-winning goal on a penalty kick just before halftime and fellow midfielder Kimmi Ascanio iced the game in the 74th minute. Korea DPR beat Poland 1-0 to claim their semifinal berth.
The winner of Wednesday’s semifinal will take on the winner of Spain and England on Sunday, Nov. 3. The U.S. opened its World Cup against Spain, falling 3-1. Korea DPR beat England in the Group Stage by a dominating score of 4-0. Korea DPR won this tournament’s title in 2008 and 2016 while Spain won in 2018 and 2022.
U-17 WYNT head coach Katie Schoepfer brings a versatile roster of 21 players to the Dominican Republic for the World Cup. To be eligible for the tournament, players must have been born on or after Jan. 1, 2007. Schoepfer chose 16 players born in 2007 and five from 2008; that means that the roster consists of 15 players who were 17 years old at the start of the tournament and six who were 16.
