Hulu greenlights ‘X-Files’ reboot series
Ryan Coogler will bring the new version of the supernatural detective series to life.
The truth is still out there! Will a new pair of FBI agents be able to seek it out at long last? After months of rumors, Ryan Coogler is officially set to revive the beloved paranormal investigation series “The X-Files” with a new cast, as a reboot series has officially been ordered by Hulu.
Key Details:
- We’ll take it: Hulu has ordered Ryan Coogler’s “X-Files” reboot to series.
- Same plot: The show will follow a pair of FBI agents who investigate paranormal phenomena.
- Who’s who?: Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel have been cast in the series.
Coogler’s “X-Files” will continue to focus on a pair of FBI agents from very different backgrounds who are forced together to investigate unexplained paranormal cases buried deep in the agency’s files. The series pickup means that Coogler’s relationship with Disney will continue; Coogler has also directed all of the “Black Panther” movies for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The show has already cast its two principal actors: Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel. Deadwyler recently starred in the HBO Max comedy series Rooster,” and Patel is fresh off a turn as Eurylochus in Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey.” Other casting details will be announced as the series premiere grows closer.
Of working on the property, Coogler said:
“I’ve loved ‘The X-Files’ for a long time, so getting the chance to write and direct the pilot has meant a great deal to me. What Chris Carter created is special, and we wanted to honor everything that made the original series connect with so many people while also finding our own way into that world. Danielle and Himesh, along with the rest of our cast, have brought such original perspectives and performances to these characters, and watching that come together has been one of the most rewarding parts of the experience. I couldn’t have asked for better collaborators than my crew, colleagues at Proximity Media and our partners at Onyx Collective and 20th Television. I’m grateful for the trust and support they’ve given us as we take on this new chapter.”
While the exact filming and release schedule has not yet been announced, we do know that the show will stream on Hulu in the United States, which means customers who have a Disney Bundle subscription will also be able to watch the show on Disney+. An individual Hulu subscription costs $12.49 per month, but viewers can bundle Disney+ into the equation for just $0.50 per month more.
