Hulu is set to stream the Oscars for the first time in March 2025

Next year will mark the 50th consecutive year that Disney has owned the Academy Awards broadcast rights.

And the Oscar goes to… Hulu. After streaming sibling Disney+ first livestreamed the Oscar nominations in 2022, Disney’s other entertainment-focused platform is getting in on the awards show action as Hulu will live stream the 2025 ceremony on March 2, 2025.

Key Details

  • In 2025, the Academy Awards will air on both ABC and Hulu for the first time.
  • Disney+ has streamed the Oscars internationally for the past two years, but this will be the first domestic live stream of the ceremony.
  • Conan O’Brien will host the 97th Academy Awards in March.

Disney has owned the broadcast rights for the Academy Awards since 1976 and while the 97th annual ceremony will continue to air on ABC, next year’s awards will also be live-streamed on Hulu for the very first time. Next year’s ceremony will air on Sunday, March 2 at 7 p.m. ET and will air live across the country. The broadcast will be the 50th straight year that Disney has aired the crown jewel of award season.

Following Disney+’s broadcast of the nomination ceremony in 2022, my colleague here at The Streamable David Satin theorized whether or not Disney’s flagship streamer would eventually stream the ceremony as well. While that has not yet happened domestically, Disney+ has been broadcasting the Oscars around the world for the last two awards seasons.

The 2025 Oscars shortlist will be announced on Dec. 17 and the nominations will be revealed on Jan. 17, 2025. There has been no confirmation of whether or not Disney+ and/or Hulu will live-stream the nomination announcements or not, but given the slow, but steady move toward streaming for the ceremony, it would be surprising if that was not in the cards. Hulu will also make the 97th Oscars available on-demand beginning the day after the ceremony, Monday, March 3.

Conan O’Brien will serve as the host for the 2025 Academy Awards, marking his first stint as the ceremony’s emcee. ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel has hosted five times in the past, including in 2023 and 2024, but reportedly declined the opportunity to make it three years in a row.

Hulu

Hulu is a video streaming service that gives access to thousands of full seasons of exclusive series, hit movies, kids shows, and Hulu Originals like “Only Murders in the Building,” and “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

It offers a good selection of current TV shows and its ad-supported tier is cheaper than both Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. You will be able to watch most shows from networks like ABC and Fox, and cable channels like FXX, FXM, HGTV, and more.

The service has a Limited Commercials plan for $9.99 a month, or you can upgrade to their No Ads plan for $18.99 a month. For $82.99 a month, you can get Hulu Live TV from major cable channels, live locals and regional sports networks.
