Need more lone-wolf justice after ‘Reacher’? Start here

From secret agents to ex-military operatives, these shows keep the fists flying and the conspiracies coming.

If you just finished Reacher, Season 3, there are lots of other shows to watch next like "Jack Ryan," "The Punisher" and more.

“Reacher” just wrapped up its third season on Thursday, March 27, and if you’re anything like me, you’re already missing the sharp one-liners, brutal takedowns, and no-nonsense justice. There’s something so satisfying about a show that doesn’t waste time — where the main guy shows up, sizes up the situation in about three seconds, and starts cleaning house. Whether it’s a small-town conspiracy or a full-blown military operation, “Reacher” handles business with a kind of calm intensity that makes it hard to look away.

Luckily, there are a handful of other shows that bring that same gritty energy — lone-wolf leads, grounded action, and just enough mystery to keep you guessing. If you’re into vigilante thriller TV shows that go heavy on justice and light on red tape, these four picks will scratch that “Reacher” itch and then some.

Reacher

February 3, 2022

Jack Reacher, a veteran military police investigator, has just recently entered civilian life. Reacher is a drifter, carrying no phone and the barest of essentials as he travels the country and explores the nation he once served.

Loved ‘Reacher’? Watch: ‘The Terminal List’

If you loved the methodical pacing and ruthless efficiency of “Reacher,” then “The Terminal List” should be next on your list. This Prime Video action thriller stars Chris Pratt as James Reece, a Navy SEAL whose entire team is ambushed during a covert mission. What follows is a dark, intense revenge story as Reece uncovers a conspiracy that goes way higher than he ever expected. Like “Reacher,” the show keeps things grounded — plenty of hand-to-hand combat, tactical shootouts, and a main character who’s always five steps ahead. It’s the same kind of no-frills, straight-to-the-point storytelling where every move has weight, and every enemy eventually gets what’s coming.

That said, “The Terminal List” leans darker, both in tone and in how it approaches its central mystery. While “Reacher” has a kind of pulpy fun to it (you can tell Jack enjoys cleaning house), Reece is coming from a place of grief and trauma, and the show reflects that with a more brooding atmosphere. It’s also more serialized, with each episode building directly off the last, so it’s less of a case-of-the-week and more of a slow unraveling. But if you’re into calculated takedowns, military strategy, and watching a quiet man burn the whole system down, “The Terminal List” absolutely delivers.

Navy SEAL Commander James Reece turns to vengeance as he investigates the mysterious forces behind the murder of his entire platoon. Free from the military’s command structure, Reece applies the lessons he’s learned from nearly two decades of warfare to hunt down the people responsible.

Check out ‘The Night Agent’

“Reacher” fans who are looking for their next TV series to match its breakneck pacing and vigilante, lone-operator energy should definitely add “The Night Agent” next in your queue. The show kicks off with an FBI agent answering a mysterious emergency phone line in the White House basement — and from there, it’s all betrayals, assassins, and a race to stop a major political threat. Like “Reacher,” it doesn’t waste time. Every episode ends on a cliffhanger, the pacing never lets up, and the lead (Peter Sutherland, played by Gabriel Basso) has that same quiet intensity Reacher fans will appreciate.

Where the two shows differ is mostly in tone and style. “The Night Agent” has more of a political thriller energy — it leans less into brute strength and more into spy games and trust issues. Peter isn’t a one-man wrecking crew like Jack Reacher, but he’s smart, resourceful, and constantly forced to improvise as the situation around him unravels. If “Reacher” is about a guy cleaning up corruption with his fists, “The Night Agent” is about a guy untangling it with instincts and strategy. Still, if you’re into shadowy enemies, high-stakes missions, and characters who know how to handle themselves, this one’s a solid next watch.

Don’t miss ‘The Punisher’

If what hooked you about “Reacher” was watching a calm, calculated guy take down bad people in brutal, efficient ways, then “The Punisher” might just be your darker, meaner follow-up. Jon Bernthal plays Frank Castle with this raw intensity that makes every scene feel like it could explode. Like Reacher, Frank’s a former military man with a strict moral code — only his version of justice is way more violent, and a lot more personal. The action here is next-level brutal, but it’s all grounded in that same idea: one guy going after the people who’ve done real harm, no backup needed.

The difference? “The Punisher” doesn’t really have fun with its violence the way “Reacher” sometimes does. Where Reacher throws out dry one-liners and walks off like nothing happened, Frank is all rage and trauma, carrying the emotional weight of everything he’s lost. It’s messier, more emotional, and way heavier. But if you’re into stories about lone wolves going after corrupt systems with nothing but grit, skill, and sheer willpower, this one hits hard.

One more: ‘Jack Ryan’

If you’re into the sharp, no-BS vibe of “Reacher” but want something with a bit more globe-trotting espionage, “Jack Ryan” is an easy next pick. John Krasinski plays the title character — a former Marine turned CIA analyst — who finds himself out from behind the desk and right in the middle of major international threats. Like Reacher, Jack’s smart, calm under pressure, and not afraid to get his hands dirty when things go sideways. It’s got that same pulse-pounding tension, but with a spy-thriller twist that takes the action far beyond small-town brawls.

Where “Jack Ryan” differs most from “Reacher” is in how it plays with scale and smarts. Jack’s not breaking noses in diners (okay, sometimes), he’s digging into data, chasing leads across continents, and trying to stop global crises before they erupt. It’s less “kick in the door” and more “track the wire transfer” — but don’t worry, there’s still plenty of shootouts, chases, and tense standoffs. If you liked Reacher’s cool competence but want to watch it play out on a much bigger stage, “Jack Ryan” is a solid move.
