Can you stream ‘Moana 2’ now? When will it be available on Disney+?

Can you stream ‘Moana 2’ now? When will it be available on Disney+?

The sequel to 2016’s ‘Moana’ is officially out in theaters, and we’ll give our prediction on when you can stream it here.

What’s next for Moana and her friend, the boisterous demigod Maui? You can find out by purchasing a ticket to “Moana 2,” which came into theaters officially on Wednesday, Nov. 27 to take advantage of the Thanksgiving weekend. You can’t stream “Moana 2” on Disney+ yet, but we’ll walk through when we think you’ll be able to do so below!

Key Details:

  • “Moana 2” already has claim to the biggest five-day premiere of any movie in history.
  • As a Disney animated movie, the film will stream first on Disney+.
  • It’s highly likely that “Moana 2” will take more than 100 days to reach the streamer.

“Moana 2” sees the titular heroine leave the island of Motunui on yet another wild adventure. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana journeys alongside Maui and a new crew to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.

The movie has been a huge hit with audiences, scoring an estimated $225 million since opening on Wednesday. That makes the movie the biggest five-day domestic opening of all time, and Disney is now responsible for the top seven opening Thanksgiving weekends in history.

When will ‘Moana 2’ stream at home?

“Moana 2“‘s eventual streaming destination is incredibly easy to predict. The movie is sourced from Walt Disney Animation Studios, which means that when it’s available to stream with a subscription, it will be found on Disney+.

There’s no official word on how long that will take, but it could be a while. Disney likes to give good box-office performing movies a long runway in theaters, and audience response to “Moana 2” so far indicates that the movie will be a big earner.

Other big Disney releases from 2024 have gotten far more than 100 days in theaters and premium digital rental and purchase platforms like Prime Video before heading to Disney+. “Deadpool & Wolverine” spent 109 days in cinemas before debuting on Disney+, and “Inside Out 2” took a 103-day trip through theaters before bowing on the streamer.

There’s no reason to think “Moana 2” will come to Disney+ any sooner, so I’ll predict a 107-day theatrical window for the movie. That would mean it will stream on Disney+ as of Friday, March 14, 2025 — a great way for fans to shake off the cold winter weather and look toward spring.
