Is Newest M. Night Shyamalan Movie ‘Trap’ Available to Stream? When Will it Debut on Max?
Audiences are enjoying the latest thriller from the master of twists, but when will it come to streaming?
M. Night Shyamalan is bringing a new movie to theaters for the first time since 2023’s “Knock at the Cabin.” His latest thriller is called “Trap,” and stars Josh Hartnett as a dad who takes his daughter to a concert, only to find a huge police presence is blocking him from leaving. The movie comes to theaters on Friday, Aug. 2, and is likely to feature all the storytelling sleight-of-hand that Shyamalan is known for, but fans are likely hoping the streaming premiere date of the film is more straightforward.
Key Details:
- “Trap” has an audience score of 66% so far on Rotten Tomatoes.
- The movie is being distributed by Warner Bros. Discovery in the United States, which means it’ll stream on Max.
- Viewers will likely be in for a bit of a wait to see “Trap” become available.
Watch the Trailer for ‘Trap’:
“Trap” stars Josh Hartnett as a dad who takes his daughter to see the latest pop sensation at a huge concert. But once there, the audience realizes that the arena has been completely surrounded by police, with no one allowed in or out. There’s something incredibly sinister at work, and the attendees become concerned that they may not make it out in one piece…
Critics are somewhat lukewarm on “Trap,” which has a 44% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. But its audience score is up to 66%, showing that average viewers who have caught preview screenings think well of the latest outing from Shyamalan.
When Can You Stream ‘Trap’ on Max?

“Trap” is a theatrical exclusive at the moment, but since Warner Bros. Discovery is distributing the film in the United States, it’s easy to say which streaming service has the rights to the movie once it’s no longer exclusively available to stream on premium digital rental and purchase sites like Prime Video or Apple TV. Max will be the streaming home of “Trap” once it’s available on-demand.
It could be a long wait for fans, however. WBD is a firm believer in maximizing revenues from theatrical releases, and Shyamalan is still a big box-office draw. Recent romance/thriller “Love Lies Bleeding” took 133 days to arrive on Max after its theatrical release, and the WBD-distributed movie “The Watchers” doesn’t have a Max streaming date in sight yet. It was first released on June 7, 56 days ago as of the time of this writing.
I’ll prognosticate that “Trap” will come to Max on Friday, Nov. 29, which is 119 days from now. That should allow WBD to make plenty of money off the film, and even though it’s a Shyamalan, it doesn’t scream “Halloween” enough for me to think that the company will want to send it to Max ahead of Spooky Season.
