Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Landman’ attracts more than 5 million viewers with premiere
‘Landman’ debuted on Paramount+ and Paramount Network, and attracted huge viewership numbers.
It truly appears that Taylor Sheridan can do no wrong for Paramount. The writer, producer, director and sometimes actor serves as co-creator for the new series “Landman,” the series which explores the world of Texas oil rigs and all the financial and geopolitical considerations that go along with them. The show has been a winner for Paramount ratings-wise, turning in one of the biggest debuts of any show in recent years with its Nov. 17 premiere episode.
Key Details:
- “Landman“‘s debut episode delivered 5.2 million total viewers across linear and streaming platforms.
- The numbers show that “Landman” is the biggest global series launch on Paramount+ in two years.
- The show also became the top spot for a U.S. premiere in Paramount+ history within its first three days.
Paramount+ is quite accustomed to seeing big numbers from Taylor Sheridan’s titles. Even so, the numbers for the series premiere of “Landman” are quite eye-popping. The show delivered 5.2 million viewers for its series premiere, across Paramount+ and a linear preview on Paramount Network on Nov. 17.
For comparison, the series premiere of HBO’s “House of the Dragon” drew around 9.9 million viewers back in 2022. “Landman” was able to attract more than half that total, despite being on a lesser-known streaming service with fewer subscribers, and despite not being a sequel or prequel series to any other popular titles as “HotD” is.
“Landman” became the biggest global premiere for Paramount+ in two years, and joins fellow Sheridan titles “Tulsa King” and “1923” as the top three biggest season launches in the streamer’s history. Additionally, “Landman” now owns the No. 1 spot for a U.S. premiere in Paramount+ history within its first three days.
The show takes viewers to the hot, dusty plains of West Texas, where modern-day prospectors still hope to strike it rich with black gold. In addition to lead Billy Bob Thornton, the show stars Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan, and Demi Moore. Jon Hamm stars in a recurring guest role. Andy Garcia and Michael Peña serve as guest stars.
This isn’t the first time Sheridan has driven big numbers for a streaming service with his popular TV shows. A recent survey revealed that almost 4% of all Peacock customers who signed up for that streamer between January and August came to the streamer to watch “Yellowstone,” the first title that vaulted Sheridan into superstardom.
