Liam Neeson stars in the reboot of Leslie Nielsen’s beloved franchise, which hits theaters on Aug. 1.
Wait…is “The Naked Gun” actually good? The reviews for the movie so far certainly seem to indicate so, which is a defiance of expectations given the usual quality of rebooted franchises. Liam Neeson’s “The Naked Gun” premieres in theaters on Friday, Aug. 1, and we’ll offer our best prognostication of when you will be able to stream it at home!
Key Details:
- Great time at the movies: “The Naked Gun” has delighted critics and preview audiences alike.
- Paramount importance: Paramount is distributing the movie, so it will stream first on Paramount+.
- Straight to streaming?: Many recent Paramount releases have come to streaming after just 60 days.
The world has been crying out for a hero, desperate for anyone who can step into the spotlight and save the planet from devious criminals who are bent on its destruction. Until such a paragon arrives, however, Frank Drebin Jr. will have to do. The lieutenant is determined to follow in his father’s footsteps, climbing the ranks to become the leader of Police Squad. You can probably guess how that’ll go…
Reviews for “The Naked Gun” indicate it could be one of the funniest movies of 2025 so far. It sports a 90% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and 87% of those who have managed to catch a preview screening of the movie agree it’s a ripping good time. What better way to spend a sultry summer afternoon than sitting in an air conditioned theater laughing?

When will ‘The Naked Gun’ be available to stream?
Because “The Naked Gun” is distributed by Paramount, it’s easy to determine exactly where the movie will stream once it leaves theaters. As with all other Paramount Pictures titles, “The Naked Gun” will be available to stream first on Paramount+.
How long will that take? It might not be as long as some fans fear. Recent Paramount releases like “Novocaine,” “Better Man,” and even “Gladiator II” all came to streaming around 60 days after arriving in theaters, seemingly regardless of box office success.
For now, I’ll predict that “The Naked Gun” will use the same window. If that holds true, the movie will debut on Paramount+ on Sept. 30. However, if “The Naked Gun” sustains its popularity in theaters, Paramount may decide to keep it there longer to let it rack up more revenue.
