When will you be able to stream ‘Lilo & Stitch’ at home?
The highly anticipated movie is finally in theaters, but when will you be able to watch it on Disney+?
Just because he’s small and blue doesn’t mean he’s not the most horrific instrument of destruction ever released on the galaxy. Experiment 626, also known as Stitch, is coming back to the big screen in Disney’s live-action adaptation “Lilo & Stitch.” The movie is in theaters now and is looking to set Memorial Day records, but for those who don’t want to brave the holiday weekend crowds, we’ll let you know when we think the ʻohana-friendly film will stream at home.
Key Details:
- Worth the wait: The live-action adaptation is expected to help kick off a busy summer movie season.
- Box office smash: “Lilo & Stitch” brought in $14 million at the box office during Thursday’s preview.
- It might be a while: History suggests the movie will stay in theaters for at least 100 days before hitting Disney+.

“Lilo & Stitch” tells the tale of a genetically-engineered alien monster who is specifically designed to be a tool of abject destruction. Breaking free of captivity, he finds his way to Earth, crash-landing in Hawaii. He intends to carry on his mission of mayhem, but he falls under the care of Lilo, a young girl with a huge heart who has a hard time making friends. Giving him the name Stitch, Lilo is determined to make her new friend good, no matter how intent on chaos he is.
The movie is out in theaters now and stars Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as Nani, Zach Galifianakis as Jumba, Billy Magnussen as Agent Pleakley, Courtney B. Vance as Cobra Bubbles, Hannah Waddingham as the Grand Councilwoman, Kaipo Dudoit as David Kawena, and Chris Sanders returning as the voice of Stitch.

When will ‘Lilo & Stitch’ stream on Disney+?
It’s easy to say where “Lilo & Stitch” will eventually stream. The movie is a Disney project from start to finish, meaning that it will head to Disney+ once it’s no longer exclusively available in theaters and on premium video-on-demand services like Prime Video, which allow audiences to rent movies that are still in cinemas.
How long that will take is obviously a more open question. Other recent live-action adaptations from Disney include “The Little Mermaid” and “Mufasa: The Lion King.” The former title was held off Disney+ for 103 days, and the latter will premiere on the service on March 26, a full 96 days after bowing in theaters.
We expect “Lilo & Stitch” to follow more or less the same pattern. We’ll predict that it will come to Disney+ on Friday, Aug. 29, 98 days after its initial theatrical release. If that’s true, fans will be able to say both hello and goodbye to summer by watching the film in theaters and on streaming.
