Obsessed with ‘Hijack’ Season 2? Here’s what to stream next
The train may have stopped, but the tension definitely doesn’t have to.
If there’s one show my wife and I have been locked into so far this year, it’s the second season of “Hijack.” We love a ticking-clock thriller, and Season 2 somehow raised the stakes by moving Sam Nelson from a hijacked plane to a Berlin underground train. The finale drops on Wednesday, March 4, and while I’m super excited, I’m also a little bummed. Because as soon as it ends, Tara and I are right back to waiting for Season 3. What makes “Hijack” so addictive isn’t just Idris Elba’s smoldering intensity. It’s the real-time pressure, the moral dilemmas, and watching an everyday negotiator try to outthink people who are ready to burn everything down. If that’s what hooked you, these four shows live in that same high-stakes lane. Here’s what to watch next if you loved the second season of “Hijack.”
Hijack
Expert negotiator Sam Nelson is in for the ride of his life—and so is everyone on board with him—after a group of hijackers take control. Sam will try every move in his playbook to take them down…as the stakes grow higher by the second.
Loved ‘Hijack’? Watch ‘24’

If it’s the real-time pressure of “Hijack” that gets you, then “24” is the obvious next step. Every season unfolds across a single day, with each episode covering one hour. The clock is always ticking, the stakes are always escalating, and just like Sam on that train or Flight KA29, Jack Bauer is constantly one decision away from disaster. It’s that same breathless feeling where you barely get a second to exhale.
Now, the scale is way bigger. “24” leans harder into counter-terrorism, political conspiracies, and full-blown action sequences. It’s louder and more explosive, and where Sam negotiates and calculates, Jack kicks down doors. But if you’re craving that edge-of-your-seat urgency where every second matters, this one absolutely scratches the same itch.
24
Counterterrorism agent Jack Bauer fights the bad guys of the world, a day at a time. With each week’s episode unfolding in real-time, “24” covers a single day in the life of Bauer each season.

Check out: ‘The Night Agent’

One of the smartest things “Hijack” does is put an ordinary professional in the middle of an extraordinary crisis. That’s exactly what “The Night Agent” thrives on. Peter Sutherland isn’t some elite mastermind at the top of the food chain. He’s a lower-level FBI agent who answers a phone that rarely rings… until it does. From there, it’s a nonstop pursuit, hidden agendas, and powerful people who do not want the truth getting out.
The big difference is scope. “Hijack” traps you in one contained environment, where “The Night Agent” sprawls across Washington and beyond. It mixes conspiracy thriller with action and political intrigue. But the core feeling is the same: an everyman trying to stay one step ahead while the walls close in. If you loved watching Sam think his way through chaos, this keeps that adrenaline flowing.
The Night Agent
Brought together by a midnight phone call, an FBI agent and a cybersecurity expert must unravel an ever-growing web of political conspiracies.
Watch next: ‘Cross’

Part of what makes “Hijack” really work isn’t just the crisis — it’s the psychology. Sam survives because he understands people. That’s why “Cross” feels like a natural next pick. Alex Cross is a homicide detective and forensic psychologist who solves cases with his brain, not brute force. He reads behavior, he anticipates moves, and he gets inside the heads of dangerous people.
Now, the structure of “Cross” is definitely different. It’s not one contained event unfolding in real time. Instead, it’s a darker, serialized crime story with long-running arcs and some seriously personal stakes. But the tension still comes from mental chess, moral pressure, and the cost of obsession. If you were drawn to the negotiation games inside “Hijack,” this delivers that same psychological edge in a more character-driven show.
Cross
Alex Cross is a brilliant but flawed homicide detective and full of contradictions. A doting father and family man, Cross is single-minded to the point of obsession when he hunts killers. He is desperate for love, but his wife’s murder has left him too damaged to receive it.
Wildcard pick: ‘Luther’

This one’s a little different, but hear me out. “Luther” gives you more Idris Elba, just in a much darker world. Instead of a contained hijacking, he plays DCI John Luther, a brilliant but tormented detective hunting some of the most twisted criminals you’ll see on TV. You’ve got cases that stretch across seasons, with villains that appear, then disappear, then reappear again, while Luther pays a psychological toll.
Tone-wise, it’s a bit grittier and more intense than “Hijack.” There’s no ticking clock structure or single crisis to solve in eight episodes. But it’s got Elba’s gravitas and more moral gray areas that his character has to navigate. It’s less about survival in one moment and more about what that kind of pressure does to a person over time… It’s not pretty, but it’s absolutely entertaining.
Luther
A dark psychological crime drama starring Idris Elba as Luther, a man struggling with his own terrible demons, who might be as dangerous as the depraved murderers he hunts.
