HBO Max to begin streaming ‘Mad Men’ on Dec. 1
The series will stream in 4K for the first time ever on its new host platform.
One of the best drama series not shown on HBO in the past two decades is coming to HBO Max. On Thursday, Warner Bros. Discovery proudly announced a new deal to license “Mad Men,” which will not only bring the series to HBO Max in the coming weeks, but will also allow it to stream in a higher resolution than it has ever been shown in previously.
Key Details:
- Ready for the holidays: “Mad Men” will begin streaming on HBO Max on Dec. 1.
- First time in 4K: HBO Max Premium subscribers can watch “Mad Men” in 4K.
- Acclaimed: The series won 16 Emmys and five Golden Globes in its original run.
Warner Bros. Discovery announced that “Mad Men” will be available to stream on all HBO Max plans starting on Monday, Dec. 1. All seven seasons of the show will be available, allowing fans to binge from start to finish or to break up their viewing sessions in any way they’d prefer.
Viewers who are subscribed to the HBO Max Premium plan will be able to watch the series in 4K, as well. This is the first time “Mad Men” has ever been offered in Ultra-High-Definition resolution, but you will need the HBO Max Premium plan — which costs $23 per month or $230 per year. Other HBO Max subscribers will be able to watch the show in HD, but not in 4K.
“’Mad Men’ is a great addition to the HBO Max library of iconic content,” WBD EVP Royce Battleman said. “We are thrilled that HBO Max will provide fans the opportunity to enjoy the series in a fresh way with an enhanced 4K viewing experience.”
“Mad Men” won a great deal of acclaim in its original run from 2007 to 2015, winning 16 Emmy Awards and compiling 116 nominations. It tied a record by winning Best Drama Series at the Emmys four years in a row, and it was the first basic cable series to win that award. The show also owns five Golden Globe wins.
“‘Mad Men’ continues to show truly remarkable staying power with audiences a full decade after concluding its network run, and we couldn’t imagine a better home for it than HBO Max,” Lionsgate executive Jim Packer said. “HBO sets the bar for premium entertainment, making it the perfect place to celebrate one of television’s defining series while introducing ‘Mad Men’ to new viewers and reintroducing it to longtime fans in 4K.”
