Luke's bravado, even in the face of repeated stints in the prison's dreaded solitary confinement cell, "the box," make him a rebel hero to his fellow convicts and a thorn in the side of the prison officers.

About Cool Hand Luke

Luke Jackson, a free-spirited man, receives a two-year sentence to a Florida prison farm for a minor offense. Refusing to submit to the brutal authority of the warden and the established hierarchy among the prisoners, Luke's rebellious nature quickly makes him a legend. His unwavering spirit, displayed through daring acts of defiance and repeated escapes from the dreaded solitary confinement, known as the box, inspires his fellow convicts and infuriates the prison staff. He earns the respect, and reluctant friendship, of Dragline, the yard's dominant figure, but his relentless pursuit of freedom comes at a great cost.
