About La Cérémonie

In Claude Chabrol's suspenseful La Ceremonie, Sophie, portrayed with a quiet intensity, is a newly hired maid struggling to fit into the world of her wealthy employers. Her life takes a dramatic turn when she befriends Jeanne, the local postmistress, whose rebellious spirit and open disdain for the bourgeoisie resonate deeply with Sophie. Jeanne, a force of nature, encourages Sophie to question her subservient role and challenge the expectations placed upon her. As their bond deepens, their shared resentment fuels a dangerous alliance, leading to a descent into a dark and violent act of rebellion against the established order. The film explores themes of social isolation, the destructive power of repressed anger, and the explosive consequences of class division.
