About Life Is Beautiful

In 1930s Italy, Guido Orefice, a charming Jewish Italian waiter, uses his wit and imagination to win the heart of Dora and create a beautiful life. Their idyllic world is shattered when they and their son, Giosu, are deported to a Nazi concentration camp. To protect Giosu from the horrors of their reality, Guido convinces him that they are playing an elaborate game where the winner receives a real tank. Despite the grim surroundings, Guido maintains this charade, using humor and elaborate storytelling to shield his son from the truth, demonstrating the extraordinary lengths a father will go to protect his child and preserve innocence in the face of unimaginable evil.
