About Pygmalion

Professor Henry Higgins, a linguistics expert, makes a bold bet: he can transform Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl, into a convincing duchess within six months. Colonel George Pickering accepts the challenge, and Eliza enters Higgins's rigorous training regimen. A financial agreement with Alfred, Eliza's father, seals the deal. As Eliza navigates elocution lessons and etiquette, both she and Higgins undergo unexpected transformations, challenging their preconceived notions about class and identity. The plucky Eliza, however, is not the only one evolving, as Higgins finds his own life irrevocably changed by her presence.

Directed by Anthony Asquith, Pygmalion features a stellar cast. Scott Sunderland appears as Colonel George Pickering, the voice of reason and Higgins's confidant. Jean Cadell delivers a memorable performance as Mrs. Pearce, Higgins's housekeeper, struggling to maintain order amidst the chaos.

What people like about Pygmalion

Critics and audiences alike have lauded Pygmalion for its brilliant screenplay, adapted with wit and precision from Shaw's original play. Wendy Hiller's portrayal of Eliza Doolittle is often cited as a standout performance, capturing the character's transformation with both vulnerability and strength. Leslie Howard's depiction of Henry Higgins has also been praised for its nuanced portrayal of a complex and often unsympathetic character. Many reviewers highlight the film's clever social commentary and its exploration of class divisions in British society. The beautiful cinematography and art direction, which vividly depict both the gritty streets of London and the elegant interiors of the upper class, are frequently mentioned as key strengths of the film.

How to stream with ExpressVPN

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is an app that encrypts your internet connection and masks your IP address, allowing you to stream securely and bypass restrictions.

Why Use a VPN for Streaming?

- Bypass Geo-Restrictions: Many streaming services are geographically restricted. If you’re traveling outside the U.S., a VPN can make it appear as if you’re still in the country, giving you access to your subscriptions.
- Avoid ISP Throttling: Your internet provider might slow down your connection during high-bandwidth activities like streaming. A VPN encrypts your activity, preventing your ISP from throttling your speeds and ensuring a smooth, buffer-free experience.
- Increase Privacy: A VPN protects your data on non-secure public Wi-Fi networks by creating an encrypted tunnel, safeguarding your personal information while you stream.
