About The Monk and the Gun

Kingdom of Bhutan, 2006. Modernization is sweeping through the land. Bhutan, the last nation to embrace internet and television, now faces its biggest transformation: democracy. Authorities stage a mock election to educate the populace, but the locals remain unconvinced. In rural Bhutan, where religion holds more sway than politics, an election supervisor discovers a monk planning a secret ceremony for election day. This event, shrouded in mystery, adds another layer to the already complex transition as ancient beliefs intersect with the modern world, prompting questions about tradition, change, and the very soul of Bhutan.
