About Three Thousand Years of Longing

During a trip to Istanbul, Alithea Binnie, a narratologist, discovers an antique bottle. Upon opening it, she unwittingly releases a Djinn. This is no ordinary genie; he offers her three wishes. Alithea, a scholar of stories and wary of the pitfalls of wishing, hesitates. Skeptical and intellectually self-sufficient, she finds herself reluctant to make a wish. To persuade her, the Djinn recounts his own epic history, spanning three thousand years, filled with tales of love, loss, and the complexities of human desire. He hopes that sharing his past will inspire her to finally voice her heart's truest desires.
