Access to AMC+ titles on one app is my favorite Philo feature

Access to AMC+ titles on one app is my favorite Philo feature

Philo doesn’t make you switch between apps to watch top AMC+ titles that come with your subscription.

Known for breaking major streaming stories, he’s covered everything from Netflix policy shifts to Peacock’s ad-tier changes. A sci-fi fan and Toshiba Fire TV user, he brings sharp analysis and a love for the genre to his reporting.
Philo allows you to watch AMC+ titles from its interface, a feature I love.

Sure, there are a lot of things to enjoy about Philo. The streamer has a pretty decent selection of cable channels to dig through if you don’t mind the absence of sports networks, and with a free trial, you can be sure you’re absolutely in love with Philo before you make a commitment with your hard-earned cash. Not to mention, the streamer is only $33 per month — and includes free access to HBO Max and discovery+.

There’s another on-demand streaming service that comes included in the Philo price as well: AMC+. Ever since May 2024, Philo has offered free AMC+ subscriptions to all customers as part of its Core subscription package. That’s a great feature in and of itself, but this next facet of the equation is my favorite feature in all of Philo: AMC+ content is built right into the Philo app.

To start with, this gives that retro pay-TV feeling of old. Remember when you had a cable plan, and maybe it included a premium channel that had special advertisements in the programming guide? It felt like you were doing something wrong in an indulgent way by using them, even though you had access to the content they were offering in your plan.

Having AMC+ content in the Philo app replicates that experience. You can watch a show like “Dark Winds” or “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” right from Philo, enjoying it alongside the cable channels that come in your package and making it feel like you’re really getting a premium experience, but paying a bargain price for it.

This also necessitates a lot less switching around of apps, which is never a bad thing. Some streaming devices and TV interfaces log you out of streaming apps at an annoying rate, and the less you have to log back into multiple apps, the better. Plus, who wants to go clicking around menus looking for this app or that one when you can spend your time actually watching the content you pay for.

Watching AMC+ titles through the Philo app also comes with the advantage of not having to watch them on the AMC+ app. AMC+ does a lot of things well, but its user interface could use some work, and being able to stream these shows on Philo instead is a definite plus.

It’s important to note that not all AMC+ content streams in the Philo app. Licensing agreements and other such legal hang-ups prevent the full AMC+ library from appearing on Philo, but there is a silver lining to that complication. Having AMC+ through Philo allows you to log into the AMC+ app, and there you can experience the full catalog the streamer has to offer, including content from Shudder, IFC Films Unlimited, and more. This backwards compatibility allows you to unlock the full power of the AMC+ access on Philo.

Will this functionality be coming for other on-demand streamers that partner with Philo? It’s too soon to say for sure. In September 2025, Philo added HBO Max and discovery+ for Core package subscribers at no additional monthly cost as well. Unlike AMC+, however, HBO Max and discovery+ content is not available for playback within the Philo app, and customers will have to go to the respective apps of those streaming services to get this content.

Philo may eventually make deals with those services to offer their video through its app as well, but there’s no guarantee that will happen. Regardless, customers can enjoy a great selection of AMC+ titles directly through the Philo app, a convenience that is my favorite feature of the streaming service.

Philo

Philo is a live TV streaming service designed for entertainment lovers, offering flexible ways to watch without the high price of traditional TV bundles. The service now features two paid plans — Essential and Bundle+ — alongside its existing free streaming offering, giving customers a range of options depending on how much live and premium content they want.

…

The Essential plan costs $25 per month and includes 70+ live TV channels focused on entertainment and lifestyle programming, such as AMC, HGTV, Hallmark Channel, Nickelodeon, and Food Network. Subscribers also get access to 120+ free streaming channels, more than 80,000 movies and shows on demand, and unlimited DVR with one-year storage. Essential also includes a 7-day free trial for new customers.

For viewers who want more premium content, Philo offers the Bundle+ plan for $33 per month (formerly the Philo Core plan). Bundle+ includes everything in Essential, plus ad-supported AMC+ and access to the HBO Max (Basic with Ads) app. Users can also access discovery+ content directly within the Philo app. While Bundle+ adds a full premium streaming bundle for just $8 more per month, it does not include a free trial.

The service is available on most major devices, including Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, smart TVs, mobile devices, and web browsers. In addition to its paid plans, Philo also offers a free ad-supported streaming experience, allowing users to explore content before deciding whether to upgrade to a live TV subscription.

While it doesn’t include local broadcast stations or sports networks like ESPN, FS1 or NBC Sports Network, Philo remains one of the most affordable live TV streaming options for entertainment-focused viewers. With a simple lineup, generous DVR storage, and a clear path from free streaming to live TV and premium bundles, Philo is an appealing choice for cord-cutters who want to keep costs down while still enjoying a wide range of popular programming.
