Fox Nation Picks Up Rights to ‘The Chosen,’ ‘Passion of the Christ’ Ahead of Easter, but for a Limited Time

Easter Sunday is March 31, and ahead of its arrival Fox Nation has scored two highly popular titles among Christian viewers.

This year, Fox Nation will be celebrating Easter by bringing some of the most beloved Christian titles to its streaming library. The service has announced that it will add both “The Chosen” and “Passion of the Christ” to stream on-demand ahead of this year’s Easter Sunday.

  • “Passion of the Christ” will land on Fox Nation on March 8, while Seasons 1 through 3 of “The Chosen” hit the streamer on March 10.
  • Both titles will be available until Easter Sunday or beyond.
  • Fox Nation will also host a roundtable discussion about both titles guided by Ainsley Earhardt.

Until now, the only way to stream Mel Gibson’s 2004 film “The Passion of the Christ” was with an UP Faith & Family subscription, however, that will change on Friday, March 8 as the film will be available on Fox Nation through Easter Sunday on March 31.

The incredibly popular series “The Chosen” is available through various subscription video services, but the show’s fourth season is currently exclusively available in movie theaters. Now, the series that chronicles the life of Jesus hits the streamer on Sunday, March 10, and will remain there a full month until April 10. Deadline was first to report the temporary additions of these titles to the Fox Nation library.

“Ahead of the Easter season, FOX Nation has nabbed the rights to the highly coveted series ‘The Chosen,’ which details the life and story of Jesus,” a Fox Nation spokesperson confirmed to The Streamable. “Beginning on Sunday, March 10th, FOX Nation subscribers will have access to seasons 1 through 3, all of which will expire on April 21st. Additionally, the iconic film ‘Passion of the Christ,’ with Jim Caviezel and Monica Bellucci, will be made available on the platform beginning on March 8th and sunset at the end of the month.”

In addition to these titles, Fox Nation will also play host to a roundtable discussion of both “The Chosen” and “Passion of the Christ,” hosted by “Fox and Friends” host Ainsley Earhardt. This will allow viewers to delve even more deeply into the two titles, exploring their themes and how they portray the story of Jesus with a wealth of knowledge from expert commentators.

How Does Addition of ‘The Chosen,’ ‘Passion of the Christ’ Fit with Fox Nation’s Goals?

Acquiring the rights to these two projects fits perfectly with Fox Nation’s desire to be a lifestyle streaming service to an audience segment that feels undervalued on other platforms. “The Chosen” and “The Passion of the Christ” are likely to resonate deeply with Fox’s core audiences, especially during the Easter season, as both titles detail the life of Jesus.

There were questions surrounding Fox Nation earlier this year when it decided to shake up its executive team. However, the company promised that the changes were not intended as a prelude to big changes for the way Fox Nation operates, however, and so far that pledge has been borne out.

Instead of importing more live news content to Fox Nation, the streamer is doubling down on the amount of lifestyle content it offers. Fox Nation now claims around 2 million subscribers, and its additions of “The Chosen” and “Passion of the Christ” ahead of Easter Sunday may just secure a few more customers for the platform.
