Netflix Releases First Look at “Squid Game” Season 2

The game is about to begin (again). Netflix has released a first look at the upcoming second season of its record-setting series “Squid Game.”

The new, brief clip from Season 2 comes as part of Netflix’s complete 2024 slate announcement, with more favorites like “Bridgerton” and “The Umbrella Academy” set to release new seasons across the year.

The streamer also released new photos for “Squid Game” with protagonist Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), the Recruiter (Gong Yoo), and a new character played by Park Gyu-young.

The series, which debuted on Netflix in September 2021, revolves around 456 players, deep in financial hardship, who risk their lives to play a series of deadly children’s games for the chance to win the ₩45.6 billion prize. The Season 1 cast also included Park Hae-soo, Jung Ho-yeon, O Yeong-su, Heo Sung-tae, Anupam Tripathi, and Kim Joo-ryoung, whose characters were ultimately beaten by victor Gi-hun.

In addition to Lee, Yoo, and Park, Wi Ha-joon will also return for the second season, joining new cast members Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-shim, and others.

“Squid Game” still holds the title of the most-watched series in Netflix history and has inspired the competition series “Squid Game: The Challenge,” which will also return for a second season. The flagship series has received numerous award nominations and wins, including SAG Award wins for Lee and HoYeon, a Golden Globe for O, and nominations for Outstanding Drama Series at the Primetime Emmy Awards and the win for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Lee, the first time a non-English-language work had been nominated for the prize and the first time an Asian actor had won for a non-English part.

A premiere date for “Squid Game” Season 2 has yet to be set.


Australian Comedy “Colin From Accounts” Gets Season 2 Paramount+ Renewal

Colin From Accounts” is clocking in for more at Paramount+ as the streamer has ordered a second season of the Australian comedy.

The series made its United States debut the streamer in November with its eight-episode first season. Real-life married acting/writing duo Harriet Dyer and Patrick Brammall star as Ashley and Gordon, two single(ish) and complex humans who were brought together by a car accident and an injured dog, as they navigate life together.

The critically acclaimed “Colin From Accounts” was officially renewed for a second season in Australia back in August, but the official order in the U.S. is obviously good news for U.S. subscribers of Paramount+, which continues to build up its international slate.

Production for the second season is currently underway. The series also stars Emma Harvie, Helen Thomson, Genevieve Hegney, Michael Logo, and Tai Hara.


Apple TV+ Renews “Hijack”

Welcome aboard: Apple TV+ has announced the arrival of a second season of “Hijack,” starring Idris Elba.

The seven-episode first season of the high-octane thriller debuted on the streamer in June 2024. Elba leads the cast as Sam Nelson, an accomplished corporate negotiator whose flight is hijacked during its seven-hour jorney from Dubai to London and he must use his professional skills to save everyone on board.

Neil Maskell, Christine Adams, Eve Myles, Archie Panjabi, Max Beesley, Ben Miles, Hattie Morahan, Neil Stuke, and others also make up the main cast.

A premiere date for Season 2 will be announced at a later date.


Pickleballtv Comes to Samsung TV Plus

If you still can’t get enough pickleball, Samsung TV Plus is serving up ‘round-the-clock access to your new favorite sport.

As of Jan. 31, the free TV and on-demand streamer has added Pickleballtv (PBTV) a television network from Tennis Channel and the Carvana Professional Pickleball Association (PPA Tour) completely devoted to America’s fastest-growing sport. The new 24-hour home of the sport, which, as of 2023, has 36 million active players in the United States, will broadcast more than 30 top-level live PPA Tour tournaments, along with original programming and a weekly studio news show.

PBTV marks Samsung TV Plus’s 350th free channel, joining dozens of other existing sports channels including FIFA+, IMPACT Wrestling, and many others.


Philo Available Now on VIZIO Smart TVs

Philo has officially joined forces with VIZIO: as of Jan. 31, the live TV streamer is now available on the VIZIO Smart TVs, joining a growing list of platform partners and devices where Philo can be accessed, including Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and more.
