According to a new report, Sunday Ticket has been delivering coverage of some NFL preseason contests.
The 2025 NFL season is less than three weeks off now, and that means it’s almost time for NFL Sunday Ticket to get back into action. Every season, Sunday Ticket offers all out-of-market NFL games appearing on CBS and Fox on Sunday afternoons, but until now its scope has been limited to just those contests. A new report from Front Office Sports indicates that could be changing, as Sunday Ticket has been showing some preseason games this year.

As reported by FOS, multiple NFL preseason games have been shown on NFL Sunday Ticket in the month of August, despite the fact that the platform is usually reserved for regular-season games. On Aug. 16, Sunday Ticket offered the game between the Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions, which was not one of the national preseason broadcasts of the week.
Some YouTube TV and Sunday Ticket customers also noted other games appearing on the Sunday Ticket channel. Viewers hoping that out-of-market preseason games will be a new programming staple on Sunday Ticket will be disappointed, however, FOS reports that a source told the outlet that preseason games have appeared on Sunday Ticket ever since YouTube TV took over the property in 2023.
The preseason broadcasts on Sunday Ticket are nothing more than a test, a tune-up so that when the regular season hits, most of the technical glitches will be ironed out. It’s a wise precaution for YouTube to take with Sunday Ticket, especially in light of other catastrophic failures in delivering marquee live events by streaming services over the past year.
Out-of-market NFL preseason games are usually made available to stream on NFL+, whose plans start at $7 per month. During the regular season, NFL+ allows you to watch in-market contests, as well as games appearing on national channels if viewers are willing to watch on mobile devices.
NFL Sunday Ticket will present another preseason game in several markets this weekend, Saturday’s contest between the Lions and the Houston Texans. If ratings totally blow expectations out of the water, perhaps the NFL will consent to more preseason games appearing on Sunday Ticket, but for now, fans should expect such presentations to be the exception rather than the rule.
