When is ‘One Battle After Another’ going to stream?
The new Leo DiCaprio movie has received great reviews from audiences and critics, but when will it stream at home?
When is a washed-up revolutionary’s battle ever really over? That’s the question Leo DiCaprio’s character Bob faces in “One Battle After Another,” the new action thriller with plenty of comedy that hits theaters on Friday, Sept. 26. The movie, directed by auteur Paul Thomas Anderson, is generating plenty of buzz, and we’ll let you know when we think you’ll be able to stream it at home right here.
Key Details:
- No fight for approval: “One Battle After Another” has strong reviews from critics and audiences.
- Destination locked in: The movie will stream on HBO Max when the time comes.
- Short of the century mark: It’s probable the movie will hit streaming in less than 100 days.
“One Battle After Another” centers on Bob, a former member of the revolutionary group known as the French 75, which never quite got its battle off the ground. Bob now lives in a haze of drugs and paranoia, residing off-grid with his daughter Willa. But Bob made powerful enemies in his more active days, and when his nemesis returns and Willa goes missing, Bob must track her down while facing the consequences of his own actions.
The film has a notable cast, even past the Oscar-winning DiCaprio. Sean Penn plays Bob’s enemy Col. Lockjaw, and Chase Infiniti portrays Bob’s daughter Willa. Benicio del Toro makes a delightful appearance as Sergio St. Carlos, Willa’s sensei.
Critics have hailed the movie, which currently sports a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In addition, 88% of preview audiences who have seen the movie say they had a good time, and it’s looking like Warner Bros. may have an early-fall hit on its hands with the movie.

When and where will ‘One Battle After Another’ be streaming?
“One Battle After Another” is, as mentioned, being distributed by Warner Bros. Discovery in the United States. That means — barring the acquisition of WBD by Paramount or another company — “One Battle After Another” will assuredly stream on HBO Max when it’s available.
How long will it take? Most likely less than 100 days. WBD certainly didn’t wait long to begin offering “Superman” on HBO Max; the DC movie went from theatrical release to streaming premiere in just 70 days. “Weapons” was released in theaters 49 days ago as of the time of this writing, and while it hasn’t gotten an announced streaming date yet, I doubt it’ll take much longer than another few weeks.
I’ll stick with 70 days for “One Battle After Another,” which would mean the film will debut on Friday, Dec. 5. HBO Max traditionally releases movies on Fridays, then airs the same movie the proceeding Saturday evening on linear HBO, so that date makes sense from pretty much all angles.
