Oregon State, Washington State football teams near new TV deal
The two Pac-12 teams will likely re-up with The CW for a large portion of their 2025 home games.
The Oregon State Beavers and Washington State Cougars are only facing one more season alone in the Pac-12. Starting in 2026, they’ll be joined by six other schools, but until then, they must soldier through the 2025 season on their own. That could have made finding a deal to televise their football games this fall challenging, but as insider John Canzano reports, it appears that the teams will soon have a TV partner locked up for the season.
Key Details:
- Back to The CW: Oregon State and Washington State will both play on The CW again this year.
- Waiting in the wings: There are a few games not slated to hit The CW that will be sold to other outlets.
- Looking ahead: In 2026, the Pac-12 will have a much stronger hand to play with in media rights negotiations.
Canzano’s report indicates that Oregon State and Washington State are in “advanced discussions” on a media rights deal to cover their home football games in 2025. Like last year, many of these games will likely be broadcast on The CW; there will be a total of 13 home games between the two schools this fall, and The CW will offer as many as nine of those.
The other four games are intended to air on another “major” network partner, according to a source who spoke with Canzano. Negotiations are still ongoing, but the deal is expected to be finalized by the end of April. Other top college football broadcasters like CBS, ESPN, Fox, or NBC could end up airing those games, but there is no confirmation that those specific networks are currently involved in discussions.
Canzano also reports that negotiations for the 2025 deal and the Pac-12’s media rights for 2026 are moving forward hand-in-hand. The conference needs to add at least one “all sports” member school before July 1, 2026, when Boise State, California State University - Fresno, Colorado State, Gonzaga, San Diego State, and Utah State join the Pac-12.
That will give the conference more leverage to make a lucrative TV deal starting in 2026, but according to Pac-12 commissioner Teresa Gould, negotiations aren’t all about money. Exposure is a key factor in the talks, particularly as the Pac-12 is essentially looking to re-launch itself.
TNT could be a name to keep an eye on, as it has been very active in the sports rights marketplace after losing its NBA package. The CW has the national reach that the conference is looking for, and could be another name to watch as the Pac-12 eyes its options in 2026.
The 2025 season will be intriguing for Oregon State and Washington State. It’s the least year they’ll be alone in the Pac-12, and the deal they make for this season could be instructive as they look ahead to expansion in 2026.
