Paramount+ unlocks all seasons of ‘Dexter’ for Essential customers
Previously, the series was only available to watch with the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan.
Everyone’s favorite serial killer is coming to Paramount+ Essential. The popular, darkly comedic drama series “Dexter” is being launched on the streaming plan for the first time this week, in an effort to drive more customers to the new series “Dexter: Original Sin,” which will make its debut on Friday, Dec. 13.

Viewers can now stream “Dexter” with either Paramount+ plan. The ad-supported Essential plan costs $8 per month, and includes access to NFL football, UEFA Champions League soccer, and all the shows in the Paramount+ library. Customers can also sign up for the annual version of this plan for $80 per year.
The Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan was previously the only tier that allowed viewers to watch episodes of “Dexter” on-demand. This plan costs $13 per month and removes ads during playback. It also unlocks a livestream of viewers’ local CBS stations in every market, and makes the SHOWTIME library, with titles like “The Agency” and “Yellowjackets” available.
“Dexter” followed the life and doings of Dexter Morgan, a serial killer with a very specific list of targets: murderers who have slipped through the fingers of the justice system. Using his position as a blood spatter analyst, Dexter gets the lowdown on the most gruesome cases in Miami, then exacts his own form of justice.
The new series “Dexter: Original Sin” takes viewers back to a 21-year-old Dexter, whose dark urges are just beginning to surface. With the help of his father, Dexter learns to channel his sinister energy into something that might help him do good…at least, his version of good.
Adding “Dexter” to Paramount+ Essential is clearly intended to help drive viewers to upgrade their subscriptions in order to watch “Dexter: Original Sin.” The latter series will remain exclusive to Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, so Essential subscribers will have to move up a tier in order to watch once they’re done bingeing “Dexter.”
