What’s the Premise of the ‘Mission: Impossible’ Franchise?
The franchise follows the adventures of the Impossible Mission Force (IMF), which travels the world foiling evil plots for its destruction. Ethan Hunt (Cruise) is the agency’s most decorated operator, but his ability to save the world always seems to spawn new enemies with a personal desire for revenge.
‘Mission: Impossible’
Ethan Hunt is framed for the deaths of his espionage team and attempts to flee government assassins after him. With his back against the wall, pursued by friend and foe alike, Hunt races against the clock in order to discover the truth about the murder of his teammates.
‘Mission: Impossible II’
The world’s greatest spy Ethan Hunt (now with an unmistakably early-aughts hairdo) returns and partners up with the beautiful Nyah Hall ( Thandiwe Newton) to stop renegade agent Sean Ambrose from releasing a new kind of terror on an unsuspecting world.
‘Mission: Impossible III’
Ethan Hunt was out…until he’s dragged back in. Formerly retired and now married, Hunt hurdles into spectacular new adventures from Rome to Shanghai as he races to rescue a captured agent and stop the ruthless and conniving Davian (Phillip Seymour Hoffman) from eliminating his next target: Ethan’s wife.
‘Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol’
Hunt and his IMF team are framed for the bombing of the Kremlin. In order to avoid an international incident the government promises to shut down the IMF, forcing Hunt and his team to go rogue in order to clear their names and stop the destruction of everything they’ve worked so hard for over the years.
‘Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation’
The IMF is history, but the threats it dealt with have not gone away. In fact, they’ve simply multiplied, as former agents have decided to pursue their own ends for profit. Now, Hunt and his team must face the most dangerous of these in what’s sure to be their most impossible mission yet.
‘Mission: Impossible - Fallout’
When Hunt chooses to save the life of a teammate over securing his mission objectives, a large amount of plutonium falls into the wrong hands. To rectify this disaster, Hunt will do whatever it takes to retrieve the plutonium, but he soon finds himself under the scrutiny of the CIA when his motivations and loyalties come into question.
‘Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning’
Ethan Hunt and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: to track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With the fate of the world at stake, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.
