Paramount+’s Top 5 Titles Coming in 2024; ‘Halo’ Season 2, ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Season 5, ‘Yellowjackets’ Season 3, More
Paramount’s original TV series have become household names in the past few years, but don’t forget Paramount+ gets the studio’s movies too!
As the calendar flips to 2024, there are a ton of questions facing Paramount Global. What will it do with BET? Will the company itself be acquired by Warner Bros. Discovery or another media outlet? How will it come up with the $2 billion it owes to the NFL with the relatively paltry cash reserves on hand it has?
Setting aside all those sticking points for the moment, Paramount+ is releasing a fantastic lineup of new TV shows and movies in 2024. Hollywood’s writer and actor strikes are over, and now that production on new scripted projects has resumed, The Streamable is thrilled to present this list of the five titles we’re most excited for on Paramount+ in 2024.
‘Halo’ Season 2 | Premiering Feb. 8, 2024
The first season of “Halo” was one of the most heavily anticipated TV series ever produced. Fans of the video game had decidedly mixed feelings about it when it actually came to TV screens, but Paramount declared immediate victory and went ahead with plans for a second season.
“Halo” is set in a distinct timeline from the video games that preceded it, allowing the show’s creators to develop characters and situations without their ultimate fate already being known by fans. Promotional videos for the second season tease a dark, action-packed batch of episodes, and it will be fascinating to see if the new season will be able to win over longtime fans of the franchise who have been reticent thus far.
‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Season 5 | Premiering April 2024
This will mark the final season of “Star Trek: Discovery,” and as there likely won’t be a third season of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” in 2024, it will be the only new batch of live action Star Trek episodes coming to Paramount+ this year. After five seasons, it’s time to watch the U.S.S. Discovery warp off into the sunset.
Anyone who watches the show will tell you it really found its footing when the setting of the series moved into the distant future, much later in the timeline than any other Trek property. That has allowed “Discovery” to grow into its own show, outside of the shadow of its original setting in the 2250s, a time dominated by Captain Pike and the U.S.S. Enterprise.
‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ | Theatrical Release June 28, Estimated Streaming Debut Oct. 25
“A Quiet Place” was widely hailed as one of the most unique and terrifying horror movies in recent memory when it first came out in 2018. John Krasinski is back with another original story for the franchise, and the film will star Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o in the lead role.
Little is known about the plot of the film, except that it’s a prequel that will finally show audiences the origin of the blind but highly sound-sensitive aliens that have invaded earth in the franchise. The film will feature new characters and settings, and The Streamable anticipates it will be in theaters for around 120 days before moving to streaming.
‘SEAL Team’ Season 7 | Release Date TBD
Like “Star Trek: Discovery,” the upcoming season of “SEAL Team” will be the show’s last. The show has always had a big following, but it has been especially popular after moving off CBS and onto Paramount+ ahead of its fifth season, allowing for more latitude when it comes to things like adult language and more graphic violence.
The show was due to start production on its final season in spring or summer of 2023, but that schedule was pushed thanks to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. However, since filming is ready to start on the episodes, it’s likely that it will be ready to debut sometime before the end of 2024.
‘Yellowjackets’ Season 3 | Release Date TBD
This entry is admittedly likely to be wishful thinking, as production on the hit SHOWTIME series’ third season was not nearly as far along as that of “SEAL Team” when the WGA strike first started. In fact, writers had only convened for one day before heading out on strike.
Still, the show is one of the top dramas on TV from the past few years, and Paramount could decide to put a rush on the release of its new episodes. What’s even harder to determine about the show is what will happen on-screen next season; its modern-day timeline has seemingly resolved itself, while its 1996 timeline is growing wilder than ever.
