Lock in Plex Pass price before this month’s rate increase

Lock in Plex Pass price before this month’s rate increase

Plex is raising the price on its Plex Pass for the first time since September 2014.

With a background in sports and entertainment reporting, he’s covered everything from Broadway to college football. He cut the cord in 2014 and has a sharp eye for streaming trends and a soft spot for Hallmark movies.

Rising prices are an unavoidable part of life, especially in the streaming space. But one company that has done a remarkable job of keeping its core product’s price the same for far longer than any of its competitors is Plex. Last month, the streaming company announced that for the first time in over a decade, it would be raising the price of its Plex Pass personal media library subscription service. However, the rate hike doesn’t go in effect for over a month, so there is still plenty of time to lock in the long-standing price before it more than doubles in just a few weeks.

Key Details:

  • ➤ - First time for everything: This will be Plex Pass’s first price hike in over a decade.
  • ➤ - Lock it in: You can secure the current lifetime price before it more than doubles.
  • ➤ - Future investments: The company says the rate hike will be used to invest in ever-evolving technology.

The Plex Pass is a subscription service that provides additional features designed for cord-cutters who stream personal media files. Whether that is digital copies of movies that they have purchased electronically, DVDs of TV series that they have uploaded, music that they have stored with Plex, or anything else, Plex Pass keeps that media safe and helps you to enjoy it more easily.

Plex Pass is available via a number of subscription options. Users can sign up for a monthly or yearly recurring subscription, or they can opt for a one-time lifetime payment. Regardless of which option they go with, all of the features remain the same. Currently, the monthly Plex Pass rate is $5, and the yearly is $40. The lifetime Plex Pass option is a remarkably solid investment at just $120.

However, on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, those prices will change. At that point, the rates will increase to $7 monthly, $70 annually, and $250 for a lifetime subscription. These price jumps will be the first since Plex moved to the current levels on Sept. 29, 2014. These price increases will apply to all new and existing subscriptions, with the obvious exception of those who have already paid for a lifetime plan.

“While this is pretty common for most subscription services, it’s not for us,” Plex said in a blog post on the company’s website. “We’ve held out for more than 10 years … But now, in order for us to keep up with rising costs and remain committed to ensuring both Plex Pass and our support for personal media continue to thrive — it’s time.”

Plex says that the added revenue from the price increases will help it to invest in ever-evolving streaming technology, including remote playback for personal media.

If you have been on the fence about signing up for a Plex Pass, now is the time to do so. You have until April 29 to get the current $120 rate for the lifetime subscription. Protect your personal media library now while you can still do so for less than half of what it will cost you next month.
