The HGTV series got the ax after star Nicole Curtis was caught using a racial slur during filming.
“Rehab Addict” fans are going to have to find a new home renovation series to binge. The show has been officially canceled by HGTV, and will no longer be available to stream on either HBO Max or discovery+ as a result.
Key Details:
- You’re done: “Rehab Addict” has been canceled by HGTV.
- Clear cause: The show’s cancellation was caused by the use of a racial slur on camera by star Nicole Curtis.
- No longer available: On-demand episodes of the show have been scrubbed from Warner Bros. streamers.
“Rehab Addict” has been given the ax by HGTV following a scandal involving star Nicole Curtis, who was caught using a racial slur on camera while filming the show. The series, which started in 2010 and ran for 10 seasons, saw Curtis advocate for the preservation and restoration of historic houses and architecture.
New episodes of the show were due to begin airing on HGTV on Feb. 11. Now, fans will have to find something else to stream in its place. The show has been removed from both HBO Max and discovery+, leaving no way to stream past episodes of the series.
A leaked video of the incident shows Curtis using the n-word while filming, then quickly realizing she had said it on camera. She asks the camera person to “kill” filming, but that did not prevent the clip from reaching the internet. Now, Curtis must face the consequences, per a statement sent by HGTV to Deadline.
“HGTV was recently made aware of an offensive racial comment made during the filming of ‘Rehab Addict,’” HGTV said. “Not only is language like this hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners, and employees – it does not align with the values of HGTV. Accordingly, we have removed the series from all HGTV platforms. We remain dedicated to fostering a culture of respect and inclusion across our content and our workplace.”
