Roku Channel announces new, deep integration with Google TV devices

Roku Channel announces new, deep integration with Google TV devices

Roku Channel free streaming channels will be found in Google TV’s ‘Live’ tab as part of the deepening relationship between the streamer and the operating system.

There are already hundreds of free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channels available in Google TV’s “Live” tab. It’s a fantastic hub for watching free TV no matter what genre you want to stream, and it’s about to get even more content selections from a somewhat unlikely source — The Roku Channel. On Monday, Google and Roku announced they would be more closely integrating Roku content onto the Google TV operating system, allowing Google TV owners to watch Roku Channel FAST networks and more.

Key Details:

  • The Google TV “Live” tab will carry more than 500 FAST channels from Roku.
  • Streamers can now search for The Roku Channel programming on Google TV.
  • Roku Channel content will also appear in new recommended content rows on Google TV.

Users of the Google TV interface will note that they can now watch more than 500 free streaming channels from Roku in their “Live” tab. They join the hundreds of channels already found there, as Google has been housing over 800 streaming networks in that tab for over a year.

The deepening partnership also includes greater search integration. Google TV customers will be able to search for Roku Channel content, making it easier to find specific channels or shows. Viewers will also be able to jump back into The Roku Channel with ease to pick up an on-demand title they were watching.

Recommended content from Roku will also be easier to see on Google TV thanks to the update. The interface will make room for new content tile rows, such as “Featured on The Roku Channel,” “Free live TV,” and others. These rows will be found on the Google TV home screen for easier navigation.

There are more than 80,000 TV episodes and movies available to watch with The Roku Channel, and audiences will have a much easier time finding and watching them on Google TV devices thanks to the new integrations with The Roku Channel that are rolling out now.
