Roku to stream Savannah Bananas game from Fenway Park

Roku to stream Savannah Bananas game from Fenway Park

With a background in sports and entertainment reporting, he’s covered everything from Broadway to college football. He cut the cord in 2014 and has a sharp eye for streaming trends and a soft spot for Hallmark movies.

Baseball fans, if the dog days of summer have you a little worn down by the repetitive slog that is the traditional 162-game Major League Baseball season, then The Roku Channel has the solution for you this weekend. On Sunday, July 6, the barnstorming phenomenon known as the Savannah Bananas will bring their high-octane, one-of-a-kind baseball extravaganza to Fenway Park, and you can watch exclusively on The Roku Channel’s Roku Sports Channel.

Key Details:

  • Yellow meets green: Roku will air Sunday’s Bananas vs. Firefighters game from Fenway Park.
  • Media takeover: The Savannah Bananas also have a number of games set to air on ESPN this summer.
  • Center of sports streaming: Roku has been expanding its live sports rights in the past two years.

From backflips to choreographed dances, you have never seen a baseball game quite like Banana Ball. Now, the Bananas will take on the Firefighters from historic Fenway Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox, and one can only imagine what type of shenanigans the teams will get into now that they have the Green Monster to play with.

“We are fired up to be teaming up with Roku on one of the biggest and most exciting games of the year!” Bananas owner Jesse Cole said. “We can’t wait to bring the fast-paced game of Banana Ball to new fans all over the country on Roku! And you better believe that we’ve got some surprises in store for Fenway!”

In recent years, the Bananas have become a social media sensation with their fan-focused rules and entertainment-first approach to the sport. In addition to this game airing on Roku, the team also regularly airs games on ESPN. Earlier this year, the Bananas sold out multiple NFL stadiums, proving just how big their roadshow has become.

While Roku is already the No. 1 streaming platform in the United States, recently, it has made a series of moves to solidify itself as an increasingly important part of the sports-viewing ecosystem. From the introduction of Sports Zones that serve as hubs for a sport’s live broadcasts, highlights, shoulder content, and more, to an expanding portfolio of live sports rights, Roku is hoping to become a one-stop shop for all fans’ sports streaming needs.

“There is truly no sports experience with the same action as a Savannah Bananas game,” Roku’s head of sports Joe Franzetta. “We look forward to using the power of our platform to amplify the game directly to both diehard audiences and millions of new fans about to discover something special. This is a live sports experience like you’ve never seen before.”
