When will ‘Scary Movie’ be streaming at home?
The latest installment in the franchise hits theaters on Friday. When will it be available at home?
Are you ready for the scare of your life? If so, you probably shouldn’t go anywhere near the new “Scary Movie,” which officially debuts in theaters on Friday, June 5. The film isn’t exactly a critical darling, but whatever your motivations for wanting to watch it at home, we’ll give you our best guess on when we think it will be available to stream below.
Key Details:
- Opposing views: Critics are predictably down on “Scary Movie,” but preview audiences disagree.
- Climb the mountain: The movie will stream on Paramount+ when it’s done in theaters.
- Run and hide?: A shorter theatrical window for “Scary Movie” seems quite likely.
The new “Scary Movie” sees a huge number of original cast members return, including Anna Faris as Cindy Campbell, Regina Hall as Brenda Meeks, and Marlon Wayans as Shorty Meeks. The movie sees a group of friends reunite after 26 years when a certain familiar masked killer returns.
“Scary Movie” isn’t the type of film you see because the reviews are rock-solid — they aren’t. The movie has a 28% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 37 on Metacritic. But preview audiences have been kinder; 69% of viewers who have caught an early screening approve of the movie on Rotten Tomatoes.

When will ‘Scary Movie’ be available to stream?
Paramount is responsible for distributing the newest “Scary Movie” in the United States. That means that once it’s no longer exclusive to theaters and premium video-on-demand (PVOD) services, it will stream on Paramount+ alongside the rest of the films in the franchise.
How long will it take? The film’s poor reviews and limited box-office potential lead me to believe that Paramount will send it to streaming quickly. That’s what happened with last year’s revival of “The Naked Gun;” the film arrived on Paramount+ a mere 60 days after first bowing in theaters.
I’ll use that same timeline for Paramount’s latest revival of one of its old franchises. If that prediction proves accurate, “Scary Movie” will be available to stream on Paramount+ on Tuesday, Aug. 4. Stream the other films in the “Scary Movie” series on Paramount+ with a subscription starting at $9 per month.
