As reported by Variety, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s production company, Point Grey Pictures, has signed on to produce a “Muppet Show” special next year, which just so happens to mark the 50th anniversary of the series.
The episode will be a variety show in true “Muppet Show” style, and will feature plenty of songs if its headlining star is any indication. “The Muppet Show” will be headlined by Sabrina Carpenter, and it could be just the beginning if a large selection of viewers decide to tune in.
The special could serve as a backdoor pilot for a re-launch of “The Muppet Show” if successful. Fan favorites like Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Fozzie Bear, and the rest of the crew will return for “The Muppet Show” revival, which will surely include a few heckles from Statler and Waldorf as well.
If you don’t want to wait for “The Muppet Show” revival to see the Muppets in action on Disney+, you can check out other projects made for the streamer like “The Muppets Mayhem,” and “Muppets Haunted Mansion.” Those options may be joined by a new iteration of “The Muppet Show” starting next year, if the variety special is a big audience draw.
