This Monday already has a “calm before the storm” type of feel, doesn’t it? This week is the last before Election Day 2024, and those anxious about the results of that election (on either side of the aisle) are likely hoping for a good distraction to keep themselves from gnawing off their fingernails between now and next Tuesday.

Sports Equinox | Watch with a five-day free trial of DIRECTV STREAM
With apologies to those who aren’t sports fans, Monday night will offer a fairly rare event in the world of televised sports. Fans can tune in to watch an NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB game tonight, an alignment that doesn’t happen all that often.
The NBA and NHL have full slates available Monday night, so fans in most regions will be able to see their local team in action. The NFL is mercifully offering just one “Monday Night Football” game between the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers on ESPN, ABC or ESPN+, while Game 3 of the 2024 World Series between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers is coming to Fox.

‘Only Murders in the Building’ Season 4 Finale | Hulu
Hulu’s comedic murder mystery series featuring iconic TV and movie stars is wrapping up its fourth season. Led by Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, “Only Murders in the Building” has left the confines of New York City and moved out west to the left coast.
Romping around Los Angeles as they try to negotiate a deal for turning their successful podcast into a movie, the trio has also had yet another murder to solve this season. Will they get to the bottom of Sazz’s untimely death, or will this be the case that finally stumps the gang?

‘Wizards Beyond Waverly Place’ Series Premiere | Disney+
“Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” follows an adult Justin Russo, who has chosen to lead a normal, mortal life with his family, Giada, Roman, and Milo. When Justin’s sister Alex brings Billie to his home seeking help, Justin realizes he must dust off his magical skills to mentor the wizard-in-training while also juggling his everyday responsibilities - and safeguarding the future of the Wizard World.
In the series premiere, Justin will meet a new pupil who will challenge him in ways he never imagined. Her name is Billie, a powerful young wizard who has been sent to live in the mortal world in order to train with the only other wizard with the skills to teach her.

Gru has Lucy and his girls to look after, not to mention his army of Minions. So when his son Gru Jr. is born, it injects a new level of chaos into his villainous life. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, as the littler Gru has inherited his father’s innate sense of evil.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, Gru has a new rival to tangle with, and when his family is forced to go on the run he must come up with his most dastardly plan yet. This is the perfect way to end the evening after a night spent trick-or-treating, for kids and exhausted parents alike.

‘The Dead Don't Hurt’ Streaming Premiere | Paramount+
In the 1860s, fiercely independent French-Canadian Vivienne Le Coudy embarks on a journey with Danish immigrant Holger Olsen, attempting to forge a life together in the dusty town of Elk Flats, Nevada despite the barren and desolate nature of the surrounding land.
When Holger decides to go fight for the Union in the burgeoning Civil War, Vivienne must fend for herself, which isn’t easy in a town controlled by a corrupt mayor. This was one of the most interesting films I saw all year, and I’ve been excited to see it come to streaming.

So long, Halloween, and hello Christmas! As Dave (Warren Christie) and Nell (Nikki DeLoach) recount their love story to their daughter’s boyfriend Chris, we follow them through one special Christmas where fate routinely brought them together - and kept them apart.
But as Dave and Nell tried to find one another, they were oblivious to the fact that they were work nemeses paired together to throw a Christmas festival for their town. Meanwhile, in the present, Chris struggles with relationship issues of his own as he attempts to say “I love you” for the first time to his girlfriend Jo.

Laura Esquivel’s beloved novel has been adapted once again, this time for a new Spanish-language series on Max. “Like Water for Chocolate” explores the idea that sometimes traditions can become a prison, an obstacle to love. Tita de la Garza and Pedro Múzquiz are two souls deeply in love, yet unable to be together due to entrenched family customs.
The two protagonists navigate a world of magical realism and rich flavors as Tita struggles between the destiny imposed on her by her family and her fight for love. Along the way, the audience will witness her greatest refuge: the kitchen.
