Reality TV’s last hurrah, and more to stream this week
Reality TV’s last hurrah, and more to stream this week
Two big-name Apple TV+ titles and the return of ‘Tulsa King’ make this an intriguing week of new streaming premieres.
I have to start this week’s column with an apology to the non-sports fans out there. Every year at this time, these lists tend to get clogged up with sporting events because they’re returning to airwaves for the first time. I know that’s not everyone’s cup of tea, and while it’s probably going to continue in the years to come, I want you to know that things have changed this week.
There’s not a single football, baseball, or basketball game on this week’s something to stream list, nor is there any other kind of sport. Instead, we’ve got some of the last of the summer’s reality TV, a spooky movie just in time for fall, and some other intriguing choices. Check them out below!
Monday, Sept. 15
‘Below Deck’ Season 12 finale | Bravo, watch with a five-day free trial of DIRECTV.
Board the St. David for the conclusion of the yacht’s final charter of the season. Captain Kerry Titheradge just wants to steer the ship back into port with no more issues, but a non-stop cavalcade of clashing personalities, secretive romances, and professional failures has plagued the captain over the course of the season.
Things are coming to a head in the season finale. Barbara and Jess have some big questions to resolve, and that’s before getting into the Solene factor. That tension is plenty to worry about, and then there’s an eight-course dinner for the crew to handle in the finale. Surely, nothing could go wrong…right?
Tuesday, Sept. 16
‘The Love Island Games’ Season 2 premiere | Peacock
Filmed in Fiji, Love Island Games brings together fan-favorite Islanders from various Love Island series across the globe — USA, U.K., Australia, and beyond. They’ll be attempting another shot at love as they compete to be crowned the champion of Love Island Games and win the $100,000 grand prize.
In this cheeky new iteration of the competition series, couples will compete in challenges while navigating dating, eliminations, recoupling, dramatic arrivals, and new competition twists and turns that help control the game like never before. And in Season 2, America’s vote will determine the players’ fates.

‘The Morning Show’ Season 4 premiere | Apple TV+
After a long wait, “The Morning Show” is back with a new season’s worth of episodes. Season 4 takes place in 2024, nearly two years after the conclusion of Season 3. Bradley’s whereabouts are unknown, and Alex is facing the newsroom on her own with few answers and even fewer allies.
Storylines from Season 4 will be ripped from the headlines once again, including storylines about deepfakes, a stern warning about the perils of AI, and more. We’ll also get plenty of the stars that Apple TV+ loves to pack into its titles, including Marion Cottilard, Boyd Holbrook, and Jeremy Irons joining the cast this year.
Thursday, Sept. 18

In 1999, Baltimore County High School student Hae Min Lee disappeared and was eventually found dead. ‘Chief of War’ Season 1 finale | Apple TV+
The final confrontation of the season has likely arrived. Kamehameha’s struggles to unite the Hawaiian islands and stand against the aggression of colonial forces who want to exploit the islands have led to this moment, while his loyal but conflicted wife Ka‘ahumanu tries to determine her own destiny.
Ka’iana must also take action to decide his future, and his choice could have lasting effects for his people. And after the massacre orchestrated by Metcalfe in a small village, is there anything that can stop the horrible specter of war from gripping everyone living on the islands?

‘28 Years Later’ streaming premiere | Netflix
It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. It’s a strange and delicate balance, but life persists even in the most hellish environment.
One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.

‘Tulsa King’ Season 3 premiere | Paramount+
Dwight “The General” Manfredi is continuing to build his criminal empire in “Tulsa King” Season 3. But the more he builds, the more attention he attracts from enemies who’d love to topple The General and set up for themselves. The ruthless Dunmire family has Dwight in their sights, and they’ve never been known for playing by the rules.
Complicating matters further, old prison associate Russel Lee Washington has arrived from New York to make Dwight a corpse. Washington’s true loyalties may be less easy to discern, but he’s a dangerous man, and the FBI hasn’t let Dwight escape their notice either. Will The General still be in command when the season is all said and done?
