Spectrum TV to provide free Hulu subscriptions
Hulu joins the long list of on-demand streaming services that Spectrum TV Select customers get for free.
Spectrum TV is continuing to make life better for customers of its Select channel package. The cabler has made deals with some of the biggest media companies in the United States to allow its users to watch a host of streaming services at no additional cost, and it’s adding a new selection to that inventory: Hulu with ads.
Key Details:
- Coming soon: Spectrum TV Select customers will be able to sign up for their free Hulu plans later this summer.
- Not just streaming: Several Disney-owned channels dropped by Spectrum TV in 2023 are returning to the service.
- Choices, choices: Spectrum TV Select subscribers also get free Disney+, Max, Paramount+, and more.
Spectrum announced on Thursday that customers of its TV Select plan would be able to sign up for their new, free Hulu accounts at some point this summer. The company did not announce a specific date on when the free Hulu plans would be available, but it likely won’t take long.
In addition to free Hulu access, Spectrum TV customers will be able to watch several Disney-owned channels that disappeared from the service in 2023 when Spectrum’s parent company Charter Communications made its new carriage deal with the House of Mouse. Those channels include [Disney Jr.], Disney XD, Freeform, FXX, FXM, Nat Geo Wild, Nat Geo Mundo, and Baby TV.
“We began this journey to transform the video proposition for consumers with Disney, so it is befitting that this new agreement and the doubling down on our strategy continues with them,” EVP at Charter Communications Tom Montemagno said. “This extension is a true testament to our mutual confidence in this innovative model – which already is showing improvement in subscriber churn – and our commitment to work creatively together to achieve win-win outcomes for both of us and most importantly for our customers – all achieved mid-cycle and absent from any of the typical pressures from expiring agreements.”
“With the addition of Hulu and the return of our full portfolio of channels, we’re pleased to expand and extend our agreement with Charter – delivering the most robust and valuable combination of linear and streaming entertainment for years to come,” Disney EVP Sean Breen said. “This agreement reflects our continued focus on leaning into the strength of Disney’s best-in-class programming across every genre and platform – and our shared commitment with Charter to building innovative, consumer-focused distribution models that drive value across the board.”
The 2023 carriage deal between Disney and Charter allowed viewers to receive ad-supported access to Disney+ at no extra cost. Since then, Spectrum has made deals with other media giants to add Max, Paramount+, Peacock, and other streamers to the lineup of free services they get with a TV Select plan. Some Spectrum customers will also get free access to the new ESPN streamer when it launches this fall.
