Newest animated ‘Star Wars’ show to debut on Fortnite
‘Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld’ will premiere within the popular battle royale game before it arrives on Disney+.
Mark this one down as a first for Disney+. The streamer is known around the world as the home for new Star Wars content, and will host the animated series “Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld” when the show premieres this weekend. But Fornite players will get a chance to try the show first; Disney announced this week that “Tales of the Underworld” will actually premiere in the game before heading to its streamer.
Key Details:
- Fortnite first: “Tales of the Underworld” premieres on Fortnite on Friday, May 2.
- May the Fourth be with you: The series doesn’t debut on Disney+ until Sunday, May 4.
- It’s a party!: Fortnite players will find the show within the Star Wars Watch Party island.

This collaboration between Disney and Fortnite creator Epic Games will see the first two episodes of “Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld” debut in the game before it arrives on the Disney+ streaming service. The episodes will go live on Friday, May 2 in Fortnite. In addition, players who link their Epic and MyDisney accounts will unlock a special First Order Stormtrooper outfit.
Disney+ subscribers will have to wait until Sunday, May 4 to watch the show — unless, of course, they’re also Fortnite players. All six episodes of “Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld” will debut on Disney+ on Sunday morning at 3:01 a.m. ET.
“Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld” takes viewers to a side of the Star Wars universe they may never have seen before. Exploring the criminal underbelly of a galaxy far, far away, the show focuses on the further adventures of Asajj Ventress and Cad Bane, two iconic villains.
“For the first time, Disney+ is premiering a show inside a game, launching alongside our largest Star Wars collaboration with Fortnite to date – giving fans and players an exciting first look at the kinds of experiences they can expect as we shape a new future together,” Disney EVP Sean Shoptaw said. “We’re building the next era of digital entertainment, where fans can play, watch, create and connect – and we’re just beginning to tap into what’s possible.”
It will be intriguing to see if this experiment leads to more collaborations between game companies and streamers. Disney is well aware that younger viewers are spending more time watching social video such as TikTok than they are with traditional streamers, and this appeal to younger audiences could pay big dividends.
