When will ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ hyperspace jump to streaming?
The first theatrical Star Wars release since 2019 has hit cinemas. When will it be available on Disney+?
Strap on your beskar! The first Star Wars movie to arrive in theaters since 2019 is hitting cinemas on Friday. “The Mandalorian and Grogu” is now widely available in the United States, but it’s still a theatrical exclusive for the time being. When do we think it’ll be available to stream at home? Find out below!
Key Details:
- Mixed reception: “The Mandalorian and Grogu” falls somewhere in the middle of recent Star Wars releases.
- No mystery: The film will make Disney+ its streaming home once it leaves cinemas.
- The wait is long with this one: Fans should expect “The Mandalorian and Grogu” to spend at least 100 days in theaters.

“The Mandalorian and Grogu” follows the titular bounty hunter and his young green ward as they work to rid the galaxy of evil. The Empire has fallen, but Imperial warlords have spread throughout the galaxy. The New Republic is doing everything it can to battle these villains, but they’ll never turn down the help of a legendary Mandalorian.
Thus far, “The Mandalorian and Grogu” has received a bit of a mixed reception. Its critical score on Rotten Tomatoes sits at 61%, but its audience score from preview viewers is at 88%. The film’s score on Metacritic currently stands at 53, indicating “Mixed or Average” reviews.

When will ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ be available to stream at home?
Disney is still in control of Lucasfilm and all its attendant properties, which means that “The Mandalorian and Grogu” will stream on Disney+ once it’s no longer exclusive to theaters and premium video-on-demand platforms.
How long will that take to accomplish? It’s a good bet that “The Mandalorian and Grogu” will spend longer than 100 days in theaters. The last Star Wars movie to play in theaters was “The Rise of Skywalker,” which didn’t arrive on Disney+ until 140 days after debuting in theaters. Most tentpole movies from Disney, such as Marvel titles, follow similar windows, spending 100 days or more in theaters before shifting to streaming.
I anticipate “The Mandalorian and Grogu” will do the same, and will take 119 days to arrive on Disney+. If that proves accurate, the film will bow on the streamer on Friday, Sept. 18, bookending the summer with its theatrical and streaming releases.
