Pluto TV has a selection of subtitle options, though not many.

Despite Pluto TV not offering what I would call my favorite user interface of all time, I still appreciate the fact that the streamer has so much free content. Without ever having to ask customers for a credit card, Pluto TV offers a wide selection of free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channels and on-demand shows and movies.

Pluto TV also offers subtitle options as well, though, like other free streaming services, they can be somewhat limited. We’ll tell you more about those subtitle choices and how to use them below!

Everything you need to know about using subtitles on Pluto TV

How to turn on subtitles on Pluto TV

The Pluto TV interface at least makes it easy to turn on subtitles. On my Fire TV as well as on the Pluto mobile app, the button for doing this was within the three-dot menu at the right side of the playback bar. On the web, the caption button is on the bottom left of the screen.

Once you have found this, simply click the English CC button and you’re ready to get watching!

What subtitle languages are available on Pluto TV?

I tested numerous titles on Pluto TV, and the only language option I found there was English. This is more or less common with free streaming services in general, but it’s something for users to be aware of nonetheless.

Can you adjust the appearance of subtitles on Pluto TV?

Yes, you can change the appearance of subtitles on Pluto TV to make the visual style more appealing. To do this, go back into the subtitles menu found in the playback controls, then click Subtitle Settings to see the types of adjustments you can make.

You can change the font style, size, color, and opacity of subtitles on Pluto TV, as well as the shadow, shadow color, background color and opacity, and window color and opacity to fit the visual style you want the most.

Will Pluto TV remember your subtitle choices?

Yes, as long as you’re logged into your free Pluto TV account, you can expect the streamer to remember your subtitle options when you leave and come back to it.

Pluto TV is a free streaming service backed by Paramount that offers a traditional cable-like channel surfing experience. The service offers hundreds of free round-the-clock channels, including classics like “Star Trek,” “The Twilight Zone,” and “The Price is Right.”

Rather than attempting to carry expensive local broadcast affiliates or high-profile live sports leagues, the lineup leans heavily into curated thematic programming. You will find dedicated channels cycling non-stop episodes of many classic TV shows, alongside niche feeds for anime, true crime, classic sitcoms, and live headline news loops from outlets like CBS News. Alongside the live grid, there is also a hefty on-demand vault filled with older Hollywood catalog films, cult classics, and complete archived series.

Because Pluto TV mirrors linear broadcast television, you cannot pause or fast-forward through commercial breaks, nor is there a cloud DVR feature to record airings for later viewing. That said, it’s a great alternative for those looking for a wide range of channels without subscription fees.
