With ‘Suits: LA’ canceled, what legal dramas should you watch next?

With ‘Suits: LA’ canceled, what legal dramas should you watch next?

While fans of the West Coast spinoff are understandably frustrated by the show’s short run, there are plenty of other legal series to stream.

With a background in film and branded content, he covers sports and entertainment with sharp insight and creativity. A longtime Oilers fan, he’s still holding out hope for a Stanley Cup run.

If you were all-in on “Suits LA,” the news probably hit hard — canceled before its Season 1 finale even aired on Sunday, May 18. For fans who bought into Ted Black’s morally messy world of West Coast law, that leaves a legal drama-sized hole to fill. So, if you’re already missing the slick courtroom battles, ethical gray areas, and power plays behind polished glass walls, here are four shows that can scratch that same itch — whether you’re chasing more high-stakes lawyering or just need a new drama that knows how to bring the heat.

Suits LA

February 23, 2025

Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York, has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. But his firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive, he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career.

Loved ‘Suits LA’? Watch: ‘The Good Fight’

If you were hooked on the sleek legal maneuvers and power struggles of “Suits LA,” “The Good Fight” should be your next binge. This sharp, politically charged spinoff of “The Good Wife” follows Diane Lockhart, a powerhouse attorney navigating the high-stakes world of a Black-owned law firm in Chicago. Like “Suits LA,” it’s packed with moral gray zones, flashy court cases, and lawyers trying to keep their careers — and consciences — intact. The firm’s inner politics and tough client list keep things tense, while the writing cuts deep into current events.

Where “The Good Fight” really stands apart is in how bold and experimental it gets. The show blends legal drama with social satire and even surreal elements — at one point, there are musical numbers explaining political scandals. It’s weirder, wilder, and way more fearless than “Suits LA,” but just as obsessed with power, status, and the personal cost of doing what’s right in a flawed system.

The Good Fight

February 19, 2017

Picking up one year after the events of the final broadcast episode of “The Good Wife”, an enormous financial scam has destroyed the reputation of a young lawyer, Maia Rindell, while simultaneously wiping out her mentor and godmother Diane Lockhart’s savings. Forced out of her law firm, now called “Lockhart, Deckler, Gussman, Lee, Lyman, Gilbert, Lurie, Kagan, Tannebaum & Associates”, they join Lucca Quinn at one of Chicago’s preeminent law firms.

Check out ‘Presumed Innocent’

My wife and I both loved “Presumed Innocent,” and if you were into the tension and legal strategy of “Suits LA,” this one will hit the mark. It’s part legal drama, part murder mystery, following Rusty Sabich (Jake Gyllenhaal), a top prosecutor who suddenly finds himself on trial for the murder of a colleague. It’s got all the courtroom suspense you’d expect, plus a twisted whodunit that keeps things gripping from start to finish. Like “Suits LA,” it explores how ambition, betrayal, and personal flaws play out under pressure — but here, the stakes are way more personal.

Where “Presumed Innocent” goes darker is in tone and structure. This show leans heavily into psychological drama, with slow-burning tension and emotional fallout that ripple through Rusty’s family, his marriage, and his colleagues. It’s not about building a firm or winning clients — it’s about holding your life together when it’s all falling apart. And while “Suits LA” had a polished, West Coast sheen, “Presumed Innocent” trades that for moody, intimate intensity. It’s a tighter, tenser ride — but just as addictive.

Presumed Innocent

A horrific murder upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney’s Office when one of its own is suspected of the crime—leaving the accused fighting to keep his family together.

Don’t miss ‘Billions’

This one was one of my favorites for years. I’m a huge Paul Giamatti fan, and he is ultra-satisfying in “Billions.” Every scene he’s in has this quiet intensity — even when he’s not saying anything, you can feel the wheels turning. Then you put him up against Damian Lewis? Yes please. The power plays, the grudges, the shifting alliances — it’s a masterclass in slow-burn conflict. And like “Suits LA,” the show dives into the gray areas of ambition and justice, with high-powered professionals constantly testing the line between right and wrong.

But where “Suits LA” stays grounded in law firm drama, “Billions” goes full throttle into financial warfare. It’s less about defending clients and more about winning, period — no matter the cost. Hedge funds, prosecutors, and political chess games collide in ways that feel larger-than-life, with plots that spin out across seasons. It’s got that same slick, high-stakes energy, but the tone is more cutthroat and unapologetic. If “Suits LA” was a tense boardroom negotiation, “Billions” is a full-on war room — and it’s a blast to watch.

Billions

January 17, 2016

Shrewd, savvy U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades and the brilliant, ambitious hedge fund king Bobby “Axe” Axelrod are on an explosive collision course, with each using all of his considerable smarts, power and influence to outmaneuver the other. The stakes are in the billions in this timely, provocative series.

Go back to the beginning: ‘Suits’

Chances are, if you got into “Suits LA,” you’ve already watched “Suits.” But in the off-chance you haven’t, it’s absolutely worth going back to where it all began. The original show launched a universe of high-powered legal drama, and it all starts with Harvey Specter taking a chance on Mike Ross — a genius with a photographic memory and no law degree. What follows is nine seasons of fast-talking legal maneuvering, sharp suits, office politics, and emotional fallout, all wrapped in that signature blend of wit and swagger.

Like “Suits LA,” the original “Suits” is all about the tension between ambition and integrity, loyalty and self-preservation. But where “Suits LA” leans into a more introspective, West Coast tone with a tighter focus on one man’s past, “Suits” is bigger, flashier, and more ensemble-driven. It’s less about moral redemption and more about clever strategies and shifting alliances. If you haven’t checked out where it all started, now is the perfect time.
