Telemundo Puerto Rico launches free streaming channel in the mainland U.S.
The 24/7 Spanish-language channel expands its reach across the continental U.S.
NBCUniversal Local announced today that Telemundo Puerto Rico has launched a new free, ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channel in the mainland U.S., bringing the station’s full slate of original Spanish entertainment and news programming to a wider audience. The channel is available now via The Roku Channel, with additional streaming platforms and connected TV devices expected to follow in the near future.
Key Details:
- Mainstream: The 24/7 Spanish-language channel is expanding its reach.
- Roku, then more: It’s now available via the Roku Channel, with more platforms coming.
- Strong starter: The channel offers a huge variety of Spanish news and entertainment shows.
The launch marks a major step in extending the reach of WKAQ, Telemundo’s owned-and-operated station in San Juan, which has served Puerto Rican viewers for more than seven decades. By making its content available nationwide, Telemundo aims to connect Puerto Rican communities on the mainland — along with Spanish-speaking audiences more broadly — to the stories, voices, and culture that define Puerto Rico.
The 24/7 Spanish-language channel features simulcasts and encore presentations of WKAQ’s locally produced lineup, including more than 80 hours of weekly programming spanning news, talk, comedy, lifestyle, family shows, and investigative journalism.
Telemundo Puerto Rico streaming channel programming highlights include:
- “Pegaos en la Mañana” — A morning simulcast with Radio Isla, hosted by veteran journalist Milly Méndez, featuring breaking news, interviews, and in-depth conversations.
- “Hoy Día Puerto Rico” — A fast-paced morning show blending news, lifestyle coverage, interviews, and human-interest stories with a distinctly Puerto Rican point of view.
- “Alexandra a las 12” — A daytime entertainment and variety show led by Alexandra Fuentes, featuring celebrity interviews, lifestyle segments, and comedy.
- “Día a Día” — A three-hour daily program combining news, community stories, and lifestyle content.
- “Primera Pregunta” — A weekday political interview series offering in-depth conversations with Puerto Rico’s key leaders and decision-makers.
- “Telenoticias” — Puerto Rico’s longest-running newscast, delivering daily coverage with a strong focus on investigative reporting.
- “Rayos X” — A weekly, one-hour investigative journalism program centered on accountability and advocacy reporting.
- “Puerto Rico Gana” — A family-friendly game show hosted by Alex DJ that celebrates Puerto Rican culture through competition and audience participation.
- “Raymond y sus Amigos” — The island’s top sketch comedy and variety show, led by Raymond Arrieta and known for its humor and recurring characters.
- “Latin Doctors” — A weekly health and wellness show led by Latino physicians, offering accessible medical advice with culturally relevant insight.
- “¡Shabum!” — A long-running weekend children’s program produced entirely in Puerto Rico, focused on education, fun, and cultural pride.
For Telemundo, the new FAST channel builds on a growing portfolio of local and regional streaming offerings, including its existing 24/7 regional news channels in California, Florida, the Northeast, and Texas. It also reinforces the company’s broader strategy to use free streaming platforms to extend the reach of local stations beyond traditional broadcast footprints.
